    • The present invention makes an electronic visitor's badge available to a person visiting a host computer protected by firewalls, and solves the problem of providing flexible, user friendly, access without compromising security. The present invention permits persons located behind an address translating firewall, which only allows HTTP, to obtain controlled access to privileged data information without compromising data security. The badge establishes a reliable contact from which only trustworthy instructions will emanate, i.e. the instructions will only come from an approved and security cleared visitor. Initial contact between a visitor and the host, i.e. an individual responsible for operation of the host computer, is established via a telephone conversation over the PSTN. Visitor and host agree on a password, or code word. The code is added, possibly in encrypted form, to the source code of an electronic badge. The electronic badge may be a Java applet which is compiled and placed on a webserver protected by the password. When downloaded onto a visitor's computer, the electronic badge mediates communication between the visitor's computer and a protected host computer. The present invention can be used in any situation where individuals wish to work on a common computer and it is not possible to exchange hardware, but the individuals are able to recognize each others voices. The invention facilitates secure control of access to a secure computer facility via exchange of identity badges over the internet.

    • The invention provides an IP/ATM network including an ATM transmission system, adapted for the transmission of IP data and including a core network of ATM switches. The ATM transmission system is adapted to handle inter-subnet commnunications and the core network includes access IP/ATM nodes (AINs) and core IP/ATM nodes (CINs) for handling said inter-subnet communications. Each AIN is attached to an ATM switch of the core network through an ATM User-Network Interface (UNI) and is adapted to perform IP data flow classification and labelling for facilitating mapping of IP data flows to ATM VCs, and to communicate with IP/ATM hosts and routers. Each CIN is attached to an ATM switch of the core network through an ATM UNI and is adapted to perform routing and labelling. The AINs and CINs are interconnected through Virtual Path Connections (VCPs), and permanent VCPs are set-up between adjacent CINs. The AINs are adapted to communicate with non-ATM hosts using, for example, Ethernet. The inter-subnet communications are effected on a hop-by-hop basis, and the ATM transmission system is adapted to map each IP data flow into an ATM Virtual Circuit (VC) for each hop, between nodes, on the communication path towards a destination subset.

    • The invention relates to an arrangement for load sharing in computer networks and, more exactly, an arrangement for distribution of traffic, for instance via Internet, from clients (1) to service suppliers who provide services from many servers. The invention makes possible distribution to one of a number of replicated servers. Suitable server is selected for instance on basis of available resources at the interface of the server, or less delay in the transmission. The invention results in better performance and reduced traffic by distribution of the traffic geographically and from a resource point of view. According to the invention, a number of replicated servers (5A-5E) belong to an anycast-group and each anycast-group is connected to a domain name server (2) which has the ability to select one of the replicated servers, so that a router (4) can establish a connection between the selected server and the service-requesting client computer. Each replicated server (5A-5E) can transmit a resource advertisement which contains information about available resources at the server in question, and about the link parameters of the server.
