    • A system for monitoring and controlling the operation of a plurality of fluid dispensers, such as gasoline pumps or the like in a self-service gasoline station is disclosed. The system includes an operating console that may be located in a station building and has electronic displays, dispenser selecting push buttons and a keyboard including numeric and functional switches, all of which an operator can use to control the operation of the system. A mode select switch permits operation of the system in various modes, selected ones of which permit an operator to obtain various period totals of both volume and cost, to control normal postpay or prepay dispensing transactions, check inventory as well as set or reset the cost per volumetric unit, among other operations. The system can include electronic displays at the gasoline pump and permit price setting of the fluid product from the console.

    • A waveform measuring and display instrument includes a random access data memory bank consisting of four similar data memory parts, which can be configured or organized as one single memory section, two individual half sections, or four individual sections. Each part has an input port coupled by a multiplexer to any one of a plurality of waveform data acquisition plug-in units. During data acquisition, a controller includes a direction memory which sets the multiplexer to establish a connection of the signal inputs to the memory parts. The direction memory is written by the processor in accordance with the setting of a user operated control means for selection of the memory configuration. A CRT display unit is connected to a display port for reading the data memory. A logical address is employed by processor and display unit for any given memory section to identify the desired logical memory location starting from a logical zero reference. The data memory unit includes an offset register for each part. The appropriate offset register is updated with each data sample input to track the offset of the logical address zero reference from the physical zero reference of the part or section. Where the data memory is configured with a plurality of parts forming a section, one offset register may be assigned to the section or the individual registers may be employed. A logic means provided in the memory unit calculates the physical location for the logical address based on the offset number in the register and the size of the array.

    • A privacy-enhancing, glare-reducing display screen shield is provided including a pleated central portion, a first leg and a second leg on the edges of the pleated portion and generally parallel to the pleats, and mounting means on at least one leg to enable the display screen shield to be attached to an electronic device. The legs are movable relative to each other between a closed position and an open position in which the pleats radiate outwardly in a fan configuration, thus enabling the collapsible, transportable, attachable, and removable design of the display screen shield. The mounting means include adhesives, hook and loop fasteners, magnets, complementary mechanical means, or other removable means. Optionally, leg attachment bases that incorporate complementary mounting means and that attach to the electronic device may be provided. One or more display screen shields can be attached to the electronic device to furnish privacy or glare reduction.

    • An optical measuring device having multiple optical paths between one or more light emitters and one or more light detectors and/or providing at least two sets of wavelength of light along at least one path, with a final measurement being produced as a combination of measurements of the sets of wavelengths of light taken along one or more of the optical paths. Features that contribute to increased safety and ease of use include providing (1) a receiving cavity in a proximal end of an insertion rod that holds a free end of a circuit connector to keep it from becoming tangled or snagged, (2) a mechanism to keep the sensor within an introducer tube during storage and insertion and to expose a portion of the sensor only when the sensor is applied to the unborn baby, (3) a tab on the insertion rod to prevent the circuit connector from becoming tangled or snagged within the introducer tube, (4) a rotating feature whereby if a torque applied on the sensor exceeds a first predetermined amount, the sensor rotates, and a disengaging feature whereby the sensor detaches from insertion rod if a pull-off force exceeds a second predetermined amount, the rotating and disengaging features being independent of one another, (5) a circuit connector that includes at least one of the following features: (a) a stiffening member provided at the proximal end to minimize bending, (b) a shielding layer, and (c) at least one slit to increase the flexibility of the circuit connector, and (6) an interface that includes an identification element that is detected by an external circuit only if the circuit connector is connected to the interface. The present invention also pertains to a method of manufacturing a needle that is used in an invasive sensor, and preferably for fetal monitoring, that provides features not heretofore available in conventional sensors.

    • A lifting mechanism for track-type vehicles has a rectangular, elongated base skid onto which at least three separately adjustable lifts are positioned. A first lift is positioned at the forward end of the skid and includes a crossbar extending between the elongated sides of the skid. A telescoping, hydraulic jack is positioned at each end of the crossbar, which jacks can be extended to lift the crossbar into engagement with the lower side of a vehicle. Positionable lifting devices are also located along opposing, elongated sides of the skid. Each lifting device is a telescoping hydraulic jack carried at one end of a telescoping arm. The arm is pivotally mounted to the skid at the other end of the arm. The arm's telescopic length and rotational position can be adjusted as necessary to position the lifting device attached thereto as desired under a vehicle.
