    • A recording head having a plurality of recording elements arranged thereon is moved in a different direction than a direction of arrangement to make record scan and a recording sheet is fed by a distance corresponding to a recording width of the recording head for each scan. The record scan (main scan) and the sheet feed (sub-scan) are repeated to record received image data on the recording sheet. The feed amount of the recording sheet is counted, and the data is sent to a recording unit until the count reaches a predetermined count, that is, the data a predetermined amount before a trailing edge of the recording sheet is sent, without synchronization with the operation of the recording unit. Thereafter, when the recording of the sent-out data is completed, the remaining data is sent for each record scan in synchronism with the operation of the recording unitDuring the period other than the recording operation period, the detection of the trailing edge of the recording sheet is monitored by a sensor provided before a recording position. When the trailing edge of the recording sheet is detected, whether the remaining data is recordable or not is determined bases on the count, and if it is recordable, the process is continued and if it is not recordable the renewal of page is made.

    • Image data are read out line by line from an image memory which store received image data. The read out image data are decoded, and upon removing an isolation point, developed into a line of original data. It is determined whether the developed line of original data are involved in only white information. If it is determined that the data are involved in all white information, a number of continuous line involved in all white information are counted. A recording sheet is transferred by the counted number corresponding to form a white area. Subsequently, a scan of data top of which is involved in a line including black information are generated and transmitted to a recording unit. Specifically, to send a scan of data referenced above to the recording unit, data involved in white information at both the start and end sides of the scan are cut.

    • Two modes for releasing a memory, a mode in which the memory is released page by page and a mode in which the memory is released block by block are provided and one of the modes is selected in accordance with the amount of received data to enhance the reliability of the reception and recording with a smaller capacity of image memory. When the reception of the data is started and the image data is filled in the memory block, the recording of the received image to a recording medium is started. Each time the recording of the memory block is completed, the release mode of the image memory is set. Namely, when the reception of the page recorded in the memory hold mode is not yet completed and the remaining capacity of the image memory reaches below a predetermined capacity, the recorded memory blocks are released and the release mode is switched to the memory release mode.
