    • Provided is a substrate manufacturing technique for forming patterns on substrates with the aid of an ink-jet systems. Relates to a substrate manufacturing apparatus for forming arbitrary patterns on a substrate 1 from a fluid 11. This apparatus comprises an ink-jet print head 2 configured to allow the fluid 11 to be ejected onto the substrate 1; treatment means 3 for performing a specific treatment on the substrate 1; drive means 4 configured to allow the relative positions of the ink-jet print head 2, the treatment means 3, and the substrate 1 to be varied; and control means 5 for controlling the ejection of the fluid 11 from the ink-jet print head 2, the treatment performed by the treatment means 3, and the drive effected by the drive means 4. The control means 5 is configured to allow the treatment by the treatment means to be performed prior to the ejection of fluid from the ink-jet print head 2.

    • A magneto-optical recording and reproducing apparatus achieving an improvement in high density recording and bit error correction rate. The magneto-optical recording and reproducing apparatus comprises coding and modulating means for (1,7) RLL encoding and then NRZI encoding a digital information series {A.sub.i }; recording and reproducing means for recording the encoded series {a.sub.i } to a magneto-optical recording medium, and reproducing an analog signal from the medium as elementary waveform sequence e(t) using an optical head; a transversal filter type waveform equalizer for waveform equalizing elementary waveform sequence e(t) by applying the transfer function (1+2D+2D.sup.2 +D.sup.3) of the PR(1,2,2,1) encoding method to the elementary waveform of the encoded sequences, where delay operators D have a delay time of the encoded sequence cell width T.sub.b ; a low pass filter; an A/D converter for sampling and quantizing the equalized waveform sequence x(t); and a Viterbi decoder for comparing the A/D converter output {a.sub.i } with a particular expected value, and determining the most probable path as decoded sequence {A.sub.i }. The transfer function of PR(1,2,2,1) encoding well approximates the combined transfer function of the recording and reproducing means and the waveform equalizer, achieves strong suppression of interwaveform interference, and achieves high density recording. The Viterbi decoder has a long minimum free distance and an improved error correction rate.

    • In order to realize a compact construction of an apparatus for producing an optical recording medium while shortening the time required for transporting a mold, there is provided an apparatus for producing an optical recording medium by curing a curable resin (102b) between a substrate (101) and a mold (103), including: a mold fixing mechanism (2) for fixing the mold (103); a transporting mechanism (1) for transporting the substrate (101) to which the curable resin (102b) has been applied to a position where the mold (103) is fixed, and placing the substrate (101) on the mold (103) such that the surface of said substrate to which the curable resin (102b) has been applied faces the mold (103); a resin curing mechanism (3) for curing the curable resin (102b) which has been sandwiched between the mold (103) and the substrate (101) by the action of the transporting mechanism (1); and a separating mechanism (4) for separating the resin (102) that has been cured by said resin curing mechanism (3), together with the substrate (101), from the mold (103).
