    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal oxide powder comprising a niobium oxide particulate or a tantalum oxide particulate which is a fine oxide particle and has a low fluorine content. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a metal oxide powder comprising a niobium oxide particulate or a tantalum oxide particulate which has crystallinity, an average particle size of 0.2 μm or less, and a fluorine content of 100 ppm or less. The metal oxide powder of the present invention can be produced by obtaining a crystalline niobium oxide particulate or a crystalline tantalum oxide particulate by immersing an electrode of niobium or tantalum in a solution containing fluoride ions, subjecting an electrode surface to anodic oxidation, and recovering an oxide formed on the electrode surface.
