    • A method, apparatus (800), and system (900) for a water activated neck seal tension relief device are described. The system (900) includes a liner (902), such as that of a protective suit, and an actuator apparatus (800) disposed within the liner (902). The apparatus (800) includes a resilient member (200) and a coupling (802), the coupling (802) including a body (600) configured to receive a first (810) and a second (808) portion of the resilient member (200). The liner (902), body (600) and resilient member (200) define a substantially circular opening. A restraint (804) is mounted on the body (600) and configured to restrain the second portion (808) of the resilient member (200) in relation to the body (600) to maintain the resilient member (200) in a first position at which the opening has a first diameter (702). The restraint (804) is configured to release the second portion (808) of the resilient member (200) when the restraint (804) is exposed to water.

    • A rescue transportation device having an inflatable support member with a generally horizontally extending main section and an inclined section adjacent to one end of the main section extending upwardly and outwardly therefrom. A cover is adapted to extend about the inflatable support member and is capable of placement on and off the inflatable support member by way of a slot means defined therein to facilitate fitting. A wide open mesh head restraint device is selectively attachable with respect to the cover to receive a user's head and hold it fixedly with respect to the main support member. A lower body restraint device is also attachable with respect to the cover and is adapted to receive and selectively hold the user's lower body with respect to the inflatable support member. Two restraint attachment devices are fixedly secured to the cover and are adapted to receive the head restraint or the lower body adjacent to the inclined section and in the other orientation the head of the user will be at the opposite end of the inflated support member from the inclined section thereof. Towing securement means may be defined on the cover adjacent the inclined section or adjacent the opposite section thereof. An inflating device such as a gas cannister or other mechanical device such as a pump may be attached with respect to the cover to facilitate inflation of the support member in the field. The cover member may be of two or three additional thicknesses along the bottom section thereof to prevent damage to the support member during dragging thereof. The head restraint preferably includes two inflatable cushions spatially disposed with respect to one another to receive a user's head therebetween. This distance can be varied in order to compensate for various sizes in the head of a user or for a helmeted head where removal of the helmet might further aggravate the injuries of the user. Furthermore, the head retaining means includes a wide netting being laterally securable between the inflatable cushions to facilitate fixed securement of the head of the user with respect to the inflatable member.

    • 1,246,999. Inflatable escape shoots; inflatable craft; buoys. SWITLIK PARACHUTE CO. Inc. 9 Dec., 1968 [1 Feb., 1968], No. 58455/68. Headings B7A, B7J and B7V. An evacuation slide structure 10 of flexible air and watertight fabric, e.g. impregnated with rubber, and adapted to depend from an aircraft, comprises three inflatable longitudinal tubular support members 28, 28, 34, head and foot inflatable tubular end support members 30, 32 respectively, inflatable thwarts 36, 36, and a sheet 38 secured to the end and longitudinal members and overlying the thwarts to form two slideways 18, 18, and is characterized in that each longitudinal support member has an impervious non-extensible lateral restrainer 60 secured therein, Fig. 5, to divide it into two air and watertight compartments and to give it a non-circular cross-section having a major axis 64-64 and a mirror axis 66-66. The sheet 38 is passed partly round the foot member 32 to secure it taut, and chafing strips 54 of abrasion-resistant material are provided where the foot member may rub on the ground, and at the head end of the slide 10 is a fastening sheet 20 having a holding bar 22 for securing the slide to the aircraft escape opening. Conductive strips 56 are provided to dissipate static electrical charges. The slide may subsequently function as a life raft. In a second embodiment, one slideway only is provided.
