摘要： 24,284. Sutherland, D. A. Dec. 18. Periscopes.-A folding periscope consists of two mirrors a, b connected by means of side members formed of lazy-tongs d. Two of the lowermost levers are pivoted at f to a base g, which has a slot g in each of two opposite sides, in which slots slide pins, bolts, or the opposite ends of a cross-rod e connected to the other two lowermost levers. The lazy-tongs are retained in the extended position by bars h pivoted at h and provided with one or more slots h to engage pivot pins i ; or clamping-nuts may be provided at the ends of the rod e . The lateral rigidity of the periscope may be obtained by rigidly securing the mirrors to the lazy-tongs, or the lazy-tongs may be connected by cross-rods, such as e, e', e , e , e , the ends of which act as pivots for some of the levers. In the latter case, the mirrors may be pivoted and be held at the required angle by friction, clamping-screws, or hooks, such as a , adapted to engage cross-rods. The periscope may be provided with a flexible leather or like casing having sight-apertures, and with fixing-spikes &c.
