[Class 81 (i)] [Also in Group XVII] Packages of moisturecontaining hydrocolloid dental impression compositions of the kind described in Specifications 271,306, [Class 70], and 464,978, [Group V], are prepared by forming an elongated body of said composition having a partial coating of a flexible moisture-impervious material and then applying a fluid coating composition to the remaining surface so as to overlap and become bonded to the first mentioned coating. The coating composition should be such as to permit the unopened package to be moderately heated to render the hvdrocolloid fluent and to be flexible so as to permit the package to be kneaded whilst cooling to body temperature. Suitable coating materials are vinyl resins such as the polymerized vinyl halide resin known as Koroseal, or a solution thereof known as Korolac, or mixed solutions of cellulosic compounds with moisture-proofing substances such as rubber, resins, resinous gums or waxes. A rod of hydrocolloid 2, Fig. 2, may be extruded into a bath of coating composition to form a coating 1, cut into lengths and coated at the ends 3 by dipping ; or lengths of uncoated hydrocolloid may be dipped for part of their length and then dipped at their other ends so that the coatings formed overlap ; or the hydrocolloid may be cast into a pre-formed capsule 8, Fig. 5, and the open end dipped to form a sealing cap 10. In the first of these methods the coating 1 may be formed by anodic deposition from a latex dispersion, or the extruded rod of composition may be coated by a series of spraying operations alternating with treatment by hot air blasts. An example of a liquid for coating by dipping is a mixture of solutions of celluloid and of rubber respectively, in cyclohexanol or its acetate. Celluloid alone is stated to be unsuitable as a coating composition. Specification 444,908 also is referred to.
