    • In a treatment and mixing machine, a cylindrical container is rotatable about an upwardly extending axis and the axis is disposed at an acute angle to the horizontal. Materials are discharged from the container through a closeable aperture centrally arranged in its bottom surface. A support post extends into the container from its upper end and a deflector plate with an arcuate shape transverse to the axis of the container is mounted at the lower end of the post and extends from the inner periphery of the container to the adjacent outer periphery of the discharge aperture. The deflector plate is short in the axial direction of the container relative to the axial dimension of the container. Another deflector plate is pivotally mounted on the support post and is movable in the axial direction of the container for controlling the turbulence of the mixing action. The axially movable deflector plate is located behind the other deflector plate in the direction of the path of rotation of the container. Extending downwardly into the material in the container is at least one rotatable tool which is located below the apex of the path of rotation of the container. In use, the container is rotated at a speed so that the centrifugal forces acting on the parts of the material are greater than the weight of the parts and a turbulent mixing action is developed.

    • 1,271,357. Mixing apparatus; impact pulverisers. SPEMAG A.G. 6 Feb., 1970 [28 Feb., 1969], No. 5802/70. Headings B1C and B2A. Mixing. A mixer (especially for concrete, plaster or putty) has a rotatable container 23 in a frame 22 rotatable about an axis inclined to the vertical, the axis of inclination being variable to control the mixing action. There is a tool 34 rotatable at the same speed and in the same direction as the container and displaceable radially thereof, for accelerating the material therein, and two tools 28, 29 rotating in the same and opposite directions respectively as the container and at a higher speed. The tool 34 comprises a pair of adjustable rods (71, Fig. 6) parallel to the axis of rotation and carrying blades (72) at their lower ends. There are two deflector blades 61, 62 of which 61 scrapes the container bottom and cooperates with a bottom discharge door 52, while 62 may be the same height as the container and be vertically and pivotally adjustable; it may be divided into a plurality of plates. The blades 61, 62 may be hollow and used to introduce steam, air or other gas, and both the blades and the mixing tools may be coated with wear resistant material, and may be used as electrodes for measuring devices. Unbalanced weight vibrators (73, Fig. 5 not shown) may be attached to the blades 61, 62 to reduce friction losses. The container 23 may be rotated by a ring gear, belt or friction wheels 53 which may have pneumatic tires. The container wall 48 may be cooled by air passed through the jacket 51, and/or by water spray; or the material therein may be heated by hot gas passed through the blades 61, 62. Controlling mixing by viscosity and temperature. The tool 29 is pivotably and laterally displaceable and the reaction of the material thereon may be kept constant by spring torsion bar or hydraulic loading, or the tool may be positioned by means dependent on the power consumption of the motor 37. A consistency sensing device 84, Fig. 4, may operate against a spring and give a scale indication or operate a valve (99, Fig. 1 not shown) in a fluid supply conduit for adding fluid to the mixture; it can also be connected to a temperature sensing device which first supplies sufficient fluid to cool the mixture to a pre-determined temperature. Comminuting. In addition to or instead of the tools 28, 34 there may be an impact crushing tool 76, Fig. 7, of similar construction but driven at high speed in the opposite direction. The container may have a cover 82 carrying an inlet 75 and dust exhaust duct 83. In a modification there may be a single accelerating tool and an impact crushing tool which comprises a disc with cranked trapezoidal blades (see Figs. 10, 10A not shown). In another modification the tool shaft may be surrounded by a stationary or rotatable tube (169, Figs. 11, 11A not shown) for the introduction of hot or cold air, steam or gas, the tool acting as a blower. In a further modification (see Figs. 12, 12A not shown) there are four rotatable tools comprising discs having trapezoidal blades on their upper and under sides, and four deflector blades (162 A-D); particles are reduced in size by autogenous grinding in the streams flowing between the tools.
