Systems for transmitting music &c.-Apparatus for the reception and distribution of wireless signals comprises several wireless receivers connected to low-frequency distribution lines, and a number of listening stations provided with selector switches. As shown in Fig. 1, a central station 1 is provided with two or more receiving sets 2 - - 4 and aerials 5 - - 7 tuned to different transmissions. The sets are connected through amplifiers 8 - - 10 to low-frequency re-transmitting devices 11 - - 13, which distribute the received signals through land lines 18 to any desired number of listening stations 14 - - 17. Each listening station has a selecting-switch 20 to connect its receiver 21 to any desired landline 18. An earth return may be provided. The receiver 21 may be of a visual or audible-type, or may be a recorder of Morse signals. Substations may be interposed between the central station 1 and the listening stations 14 - - 17, and these sub-stations may be telephone exchanges with separate wires provided for the wireless programmes. Selecting switches may be provided at the central station 1 for delivering the programmes to predetermined recipients.

Cases formed from special blanks, and specially designed for matches. - A case for holding matches, which are ignited as they are withdrawn from the case, is made from a single blank folded to form one or more match pockets containing match-igniting surfaces and having sections serving to retain the blank in the folded condition and to form a closure for the pockets. As shown, the blank A is provided with igniting surfaces 2, 3 and is folded on the lines 4, 5, 8 to form two match pockets 6, sections 9, 10 interlocked by tongue 14 and slit 13 serving to retain the blank in the folded condition and a flap 15 folding on the lines 16, 17 forming a closure for the pockets; one pocket only may be provided, and by extending the blank below the lower surface 3 more than two pockets may be provided. In a. modification a pocket is formed by a flap at each side of a central section folding thereover, sections above and below the central section being folded over the folded side flaps to corrplete the pocket and retain the blank in the folded condition while the upper section also constitutes the closure for the pocket.

Lenses, grinding; bevelling.-A machine for bevelling the edges of lenses comprises a bevel-edged grinding-disc 1 on a shaft 7, and a swivel head 21 pulled towards the disc by a spring 25. The head 21 is mounted between collars on a spindle 17, which is reciprocated by means of a cam 18* engaging a stationary pin 18‹. A indicator 22 is provided so that the cam can be brought to the correct position when centring a lens. A lens 5, carried by a spindle 9, is held between pads 10; a screw 11, with spring adjustment, clamps the lens. The spindle 9, which is rotatably mounted in the head 21 and carries a templet 26, is driven from the spindle 17 by gears 19, 20. The spindle 17 is driven from the shaft 7 by means of belts, an epicyclic reduction gear 14, and a clutch 18. The spindles 9, 17 can be adjusted towards or from the disc by means of a plate 23 and screws 24. A guideplate 27, contacting with the templet 26 and adjusted by a micrometer screw 29, may have a protuberance 28 so as to prevent the lens from grinding on the line of junction of the beveledges of the disc. A number of discs may be mounted on the same shaft so as to operate simultaneously upon a number of lenses. In a modification, the disc has an axial reciprocation instead of the lens-carrying spindle.

    • A knotted fence mesh forming machine includes a plurality of side-by-side knot boxes each for forming a knot at the intersection between a line wire and stay wire, each of the knot boxes including at least one former arranged to move towards the line wire-stay wire intersection at each operation of the knot box, the former being hydraulically driven and/or hydraulically damped. More than one former may be provided in each knot box. A transversely moveable rack bar may be driven by a hydraulic cylinder, the transverse movement resulting in orthogonal movement of a drive bar which moves respective former or supports. A final former in each knot box is preferably hydraulically damped.
