    • This invention discloses an apparatus (10) for sampling fluid from a puncturable conduit, the apparatus (10) including an elongate housing (14) comprising a conduit puncturing portion (24) and a clamp (26), the conduit puncturing portion (24) being adapted to receive therein the puncturable conduit (12), a needle mount (40), mounted in the elongate housing (14), a needle (48) adapted for flow of fluid therethrough, the needle (48) being fixedly mounted in the needle mount (40) so as to have portions extending outward of the needle mount in opposite directions, a first end (52) of the needle being pointed and protruding into, but not beyond, the conduit puncturing portion (24), such that the conduit puncturing portion substantially prevents inadvertent engagement of a user's finger with the first end (52) of the needle (48), and wherein the clamp (26) is operative to clamp the puncturable conduit in the conduit puncturing portion, thereby forcing the puncturable conduit towards the first end of the needle and causing the first end to puncture the puncturable conduit.

    • This invention is an infusion bag having an injection port (10) for injecting a substance into an infusion liquid in the infusion bag, characterized in that the injection port is closed by an elastomeric plug (13) which is preformed with a slit (14) for receiving a blunt cannula therethrough to inject said substance into the infusion bag, and which reseals itself after the blunt cannula has been removed, and in that the injection port further includes a separator layer (12) on the inner face of the elastomeric plug, the separator layer being made of a material and of a thickness to be pierceable by a blunt cannula, but when not pierced, to prevent the infusion liquid from reaching and penetrating the slit during autoclaving of the infusion bag to sterilize the infusion liquid therein.
