摘要： An inflator/sealer machine useful for inflating and sealing an inflatable cushion having a resistance wire that extends across the inlet of the inflatable cushion. The machine includes an inflation tube, a seal bar, and an anvil. The inflation tube is connected to a source of inflation fluid and has an outlet that is larger than the inflation aperture of the inflatable cushion. The inflation tube and anvil are adjustable between a tube/anvil engaged position and a tube/anvil disengaged position. In the tube/anvil engaged position, the inflation tube outlet opposes the anvil and can engage the inflation aperture of the inflatable cushion between the inflation tube and the anvil to inflate the cushion. The seal bar and the anvil are adjustable between a bar/anvil engaged position and a bar/anvil disengaged position. In the bar/anvil engaged position, the anvil opposes the seal bar to compress the inlet heat seal zone of the inflatable cushion between the anvil and the seal bar. Left and right contacts are positioned on opposing sides of the seal bar during the bar/anvil engaged position. The contacts are connected to an electrical power source. The contacts touch the resistance wire that extends across the inlet of the inflatable cushion to complete an electrical circuit during the bar/anvil engaged position and form a heat seal across the inlet of the inflatable cushion.

摘要： An oriented heat shrinkable film includes a layer including a multicomponent ethylene/alpha-olefin interpenetrating network resin having a melt index less than 1.4, the resin including a homogeneous component having a melt index of less than 1, and a density of at least 0.91 grams/cubic centimeter, and a heterogeneous component with a melt index of between 1.5 and 20; the film having a haze value (ASTM D 1003-95) less than or equal to 5, a peak load/mil value (ASTM D 3763-95a) of at least 155 newtons/mil, and a free shrink (ASTM D 2732-83) at a temperature of 200° F. of at least 8% in either or both of the longitudinal and transverse directions. Films with substantially balanced free shrink are preferred, in particular those with a free shrink balance of less than or equal to 30%. Advantages in downgauging and/or mechanical properties are provided without substantially adversely affecting properties such as free shrink and optics.

摘要： A packaging assembly is disclosed in which an article is supported in a suspended position in an outer container during shipping. The article is sandwiched between a pair of cushions, each cushion including a noninflated central web and a pair of inflated sidewalls and end walls. The sidewalls and end walls of the bottom cushion project away from the central web downwardly and outwardly toward the bottom edges of the outer container. The sidewalls and end walls of the upper cushion project away from the central web upwardly and outwardly toward the top edges of the outer container. The sidewalls and end walls of the two cushions together define flexible arches which project in all of the orthogonal directions of the outer container, protecting the article against an impact force in any direction.
