    • 1502808 Moulding tyres O SCHMIDT 17 April 1975 15890/75 Heading B5A [Also in Division B7] A cast or injection-moulded pneumatic tyre is free of reinforcing cords and comprises a body 3 of elastomeric material which extends from one bead of the tyre to the other to define the tyre cavity, an elastomeric tread 1, and a belt 2 of elastomeric material located beneath the tread, the modulus of elasticity at 20‹ C. and 50% elongation of the belt material being at least 30% greater than that of the body material. The modulus of the belt material may be 120- 400 kg/cm. 2 and that of the body material 30-135 kg./cm. 2 . The tyre may be made by casting or injecting a first elastomer into a mould to form the body 3, adapting the mould to provide a cavity around the outer periphery of the body 3 and then filling this cavity with a second elastomer to form the belt 2, and finally adapting the mould to form a cavity around the outer periphery of the body/belt assembly and filling this cavity with a third elastomer to form the tread 1, thereby producing a tyre as illustrated in Fig. 1. Alternatively the belt 2 may be prefabricated in a separate mould and then placed on the core of a mould into which a first elastomer is admitted to form the body and which then receives a second elastomer to form the tread, the tyre thus produced having the belt located on the interior surface of the tyre benath the tread (Fig. 2, not shown). The prefabricated belt may be formed with projections to space it from the core of a mould in which it is subsequently placed, whereby when the body 3 is formed in the mould the belt becomes embedded in the body, in this case the body and tread being formed from the same elastomer, (Fig. 4, not shown) or different elastomers, Fig. 3. The various elastomers used may be polyurethanes, specific examples of suitable materials being given in the Specification.
