[Also in Group XXVIII] A crimping device for fastening hose ends to couplings comprises jaws 2 and 7 having arcuate recesses, the jaw 2 being carried by a base 1 and the jaw 7 being pivoted at its one side to one of the limbs 4b of the jaw 2 by means of a link 8, the other side of the jaw 7 carrying a swinging link 8a which pivotally carries a lever 11 which co-operates with the jaw 2 to provide at least two degrees of closure of the jaws. The lever 11 has a forked end 10 which extends beyond the link pivot 9 and carries a cross-pin 12 which engages in one or other of notches 5 and 6 in the limb 4a of the jaw 2. The coupling neck b, hose end d and ductile sleeve c are placed between the jaws and two degrees of pressure are used in the crimping operation by inserting the lever 11 first in the notch 5 and then in the notch 6.

[Classes 69 (iii) and 135] A nozzle for producing a central jet and an annular spray both of which are regulable comprises a cylindrical member 1 fixed to a hose branch by a screw 2 and carrying a conical valve 15 attached thereto by fins 14. The member 1 is screwed at 3 to engage a jet controlling member 4 constructed of two parts of a tube 4a flanged at 5 and an outer sleeve 4b secured together at 6 and carrying by ribs 8 an inner tube 7 coned at 13 to engage the valve 15 and carrying the nozzle 9. Regulation of the jet is effected by rotating the member 4. An annular duct 16 between the members 7 and 4 leads to an annular spray forming opening between a flange 10 on the nozzle and a recess 12 in a regulating ring 11 screwed on the tube 4a. A modification is described in which the sleeve carrying the valve-engaging member screws into the socket connected to the hose branch.

Lids, tightened by screw mechanism.-In a milk churn, in which a gasket 18 is compressed between a loose seal plate 16 and the churn body by screw pressure applied to the plate at or near the centre thereof, the screw reacts between the plate and the bridging means which form part of an outer apron or flange 7. As shown, the bridging means and the apron ring form a complete outer cover 6 and a central boss 9 thereon accommodates a screwed bush 11 in which the screw 13 is mounted. The screw is formed with a squared hole in its outer end for the reception of a key by which it may be turned, and a head 15 at the lower end thereof, the head preventing complete removal of the screw and being detach ably secured in a recessed plate 17 on the seal plate 16. The gasket engages a groove 19 in an horizontal flange 3 on the neck of the churn, the flange being cut away in parts to permit inward projections 8 on the downturned flange 7 of the cover 6 to pass the flange; the cover is then turned to engage the projections 8 with the flange, a stop on the cover limiting the rotation. Specification 233,135 is referred to.
