摘要： A body passage having an interior wall with a lining is occluded by introducing a thermal delivery catheter to the passage. The thermal delivery catheter has a thermal transfer region which can deliver both a coagulative tissue necrosis energy dosage and a thermally fixing energy dosage. The coagulative necrosis dosage will result in scar tissue formation, while the thermally fixing tissue dosage will prevent regrowth of the tissue lining from neighboring untreated tissue regions which could compromise the integrity of the occlusion which is formed.

A second elongate member is provided having a distal end and a proximal end, the second elongate member configured to move within the lumen of the first elongate member, where the distal end can protrude from the distal end of the first elongate member and is configured for insertion to approximately the fundus of a uterine cavity. Moving the second elongate member relative to the first elongate member to position the distal end of the second elongate member at approximately the fundus of the uterus provides a direct measurement of a length of the uterine cavity.

摘要： A method and system for achieving hemostasis (the stoppage of bleeding) is described. RF (radio frequency) energy is used to ablate the surface of tissue to stop bleeding. The depth of destruction of the tissue can be controlled so as to desiccate and coagulate the tissue. In one implementation, an electrode carrier including bipolar electrodes is applied to the tissue, and RF energy transmitted through the bipolar electrodes to ablate the tissue. A layer of desiccated tissue can be created as well as coagulation of the tissue to achieve hemostasis.

In one implementation, the apparatus includes an elongate member, an electrode carrier and one or more conductors. The elongate member has a lumen operable to couple to a vacuum source and draw moisture way from one or more electrodes included in the electrode carrier, and a lumen configured to receive a hysteroscope. The electrode carrier includes one or more bipolar electrodes and can to couple to a radio frequency energy generator. The one or more conductors connect to a controller operable to control the delivery of radio frequency energy to the one or more bipolar electrodes. The elongate member is a substantially rigid member configured with a curve to facilitate advancement of the distal end transcervically through a uterus and into a region of a tubal ostium of a fallopian tube to be occluded.
