Forward movement of the passenger pushing against the part 16 on the table 17 is yieldingly resisted by springs 50, 51, shown in plan Fig. 3 as contained in a pneumatic cylinder 22 and a plunger 40 which is attached to part 16 and works in the cylinder 22, a sealing ring 41 being formed on the plunger 40 so that the air within is compressed to produce further resistance to the inward movement of the plunger. The end part 23 of cylinder 22 is held in the position of use by a latch device 26, which can be turned downwardly by handles 36 to allow compression springs 29 to carry cylinder 22 into the stowage position. The position of the plunger 40 in the cylinder 22 may be manually adjusted, a pivoted latch device 63 being provided to hold the plunger by a friction ring 56 against outward movement without at any time resisting inward movement. In a modification the support and connected parts are carried by pivoted links so that the device may be swung downwardly from the stowed position into that of use.

    • Improved sensitivity and reduced minimum density are provided by an emulsion in which high bromide tabular grains exhibit an average thickness of less than 0.07 .mu.m and have latent image forming reduction chemical sensitization sites and adsorbed spectral sensitizing dye on their surfaces. The tabular grains contain a dopant capable of forming shallow electron trapping sites, and the spectral sensitizing dye exhibits an oxidation potential more positive than 1.2 volts. A photographic element is disclosed which locates the emulsion in a layer overlying a minus blue recording emulsion layer. Exceptionally sharp images are formed in the minus blue recording emulsion layer when in the overlying emulsion layer greater than 97 percent of the total projected area of the silver halide grains having an equivalent circular diameter of at least 0.2 .mu.m is accounted for by tabular grains having an average equivalent circular diameter of at least 0.7 .mu.m.

    • An inventory control system for monitoring the removal and replacement of tools includes a container (2) having a plurality of tool storage locations in the form of recesses (10). Each recess (10) is individually-shaped to receive a specific tool, the shape of the recess being matched to the shape of the tool. A plurality of sensors (12) are provided for sensing the presence of tools in the recesses (10), each sensor being located adjacent a recesses. A data processor (16) receives signals from the sensing means and monitors the removal and replacement of tools, and an output device (14) indicates the presence and/or absence of tools in the container.

    • An improved anitlocking vehicle braking system and method for stopping, for example, automobiles utilizing uniquely designed fluid communication means to regulate the fluid pressure applied to individual wheel conventional braking devices. The system includes a comparator means at each braking device which cooperates with other components of the system to detect the difference between the force generated from the frictional loading between the brake shoe and the drum and the force between the tire and the road. This difference is translated to movement of a valve which restricts the supply of brake fluid to the individual wheel to the extent necessary to prevent sufficient force being applied to force the wheels to a locked condition or to inefficient braking operation.
