    • A griddle cooking system is disclosed. A heating block includes a heat plenum and a plurality of heat release chambers fluidically coupled to the heat plenum. Each of the heat release chambers includes a chamber opening onto a first side of the heating block. A griddle is disposed opposite the first side of the heating block and includes a cooking surface opposite an under surface. A heat distributor is disposed between the under surface and the heating block. The heat distributor includes a plurality of heat diffusers, each being disposed over one of the chamber openings, a plurality of heat deflectors disposed about each heat diffuser, each heat deflector being positioned at an angle relative to the under surface, and an exhaust port.

    • An improved apparatus is disclosed for controlling the flow of liquid fuel through a feed tube onto the convex exterior surface of an atomizer bulb of the Babbington type. Liquid fuel is directed into a deaeration chamber (50) having a suitable baffle for separating entrained air and dissipating dynamic flow effects. The inlet (64) of the feed tube for the atomizer bulb is positioned at the lower end (54) of the deaeration chamber so that as the chamber fills with liquid fuel, any air in the feed tube is quickly flushed. The upper end of the deaeration chamber is closed and provided with an inlet (56, 104) to a conduit (58). An adjustment (62; 72-88; 90-126) is provided to permit variation of the flow through the suction conduit and, hence, variation of the flow over the atomization bulb. To provide a constant flow rate of atomized fuel leaving the aperture even as the temperature of the fuel varies, a temperature sensitive valve (66; 128-138) may be provided at the outlet of the pump with a suitable bypass (68) to the sump or in the suction conduit (70) or in both locations. Methods of delivering liquid fuel are disclosed.

    • A portable heating device includes a reservoir having a lid which closes the reservoir during heating. A heat plenum assembly is provided having a firebox disposed underneath the reservoir. The firebox communicates with a burner tube for introducing heat to the lower surface of the reservoir. Tertiary heating of the side walls of the reservoir are provided, as well as heating along the length of the reservoir bottom surface. A deflector at one end of the passage way improves the distribution of tertiary heat by directing heat within the passage way towards each of the corners of the reservoir. A convective air curtain is provided by a doubled walled outer lining which encloses the heat plenum and reservoir. Efficient heat transfer is accomplished between the firebox and reservoir while maintaining the outer surface cool to the touch.

    • An improved apparatus and method for burning liquid fuel or atomizing liquid are disclosed for use in fuel burners or atomizers of the type which comprise a hollow atomizer bulb (20) having a smooth, preferably convex exterior surface (22) which tapers toward a small aperture (14) through which high pressure air or other gas is forced to atomize liquid as it flows in a thin film over the exterior surface of the bulb. Such atomizer bulbs are located within an atomizing chamber (12) through which a flow of air or other gas is directed toward a discharge opening (16,16') aligned with the aperture (24) of the atomizer bulb. To protect the thin film of liquid flowing over the exterior surface of the bulb, the bulb is enclosed within a shield (54-64) which also permits the atomizer bulb to be located closer to the discharge opening (16,16') so that the flame front (F) is positioned in the flame tube (48) rather than in the discharge opening.
