The method also includes updating an incrementor with access data corresponding to accesses to the memory unit, wherein each memory controller updates the access data based on access of its associated range of memory addresses. The method further includes storing, by each respective memory controller, the updated access data in a cache corresponding to the respective range of memory addresses and, responsive to the updated access data for a respective range of memory addresses exceeding a threshold, storing the access data for the respective range of memory addresses in memory unit.

摘要： A method and system for selecting the architecture level to which a processor appears to conform within a computing environment when executing specific logical partitions or programs and performing migration among different levels of processor architecture. The method utilizes a “processor compatibility register” (PCR) that controls the level of the architecture that the processor appears to support. In one embodiment, the PCR is accessible only to super-privileged software. The super-privileged software sets bits in the PCR that specify the architecture level that the processor is to appear to support so that when the program runs on the processor, the processor behaves in accordance with the architecture level for which the program was designed.

摘要： A method and apparatus for invalidating entries within a translation control entry (TCE) cache are disclosed. A host bridge is coupled between a group of processors and a group of adaptors. The host bridge includes a TCE cache. The TCE cache contains the most-recently use copies of TCEs in a TCE table located in a system memory. In response to a modification to a TCE in the TCE table by one of the processors, a memory mapped input/output (MMIO) Store is sent to a TCE invalidate register to specify an address of the modified TCE. The data within the TCE invalidate register is then utilized to generate a command for invalidating an entry in the TCE cache containing an unmodified copy of the modified TCE in the TCE table. The command is subsequently sent to the host bridge to invalidate the entry in the TCE cache.
