    • A device for controlled combustion of an ignitable hydrogen/air mixture in a gas mixture of a nuclear power plant, especially in a containment thereof, includes a spark igniter for tripping an ignition process. At least one ignition source is connected to the spark igniter. The ignition source has a self-sufficient energy storage device. The ignition source has at least one first trip element connected between the spark igniter and the energy storage device for responding as a function of temperature to trip the ignition process, and at least one second trip element connected between the spark igniter and the energy storage device for responding as a function of pressure to trip the ignition process. The at least one first trip element is in thermally conductive contact and the at least one second trip element is in pressure-transmitting contact with the gas mixture to be monitored. The energy storage device discharges to the spark igniter if one of the trip elements responds. The spark igniter creates ignition sparks being repeated at intervals during an accident extending over a relatively long period of time.

    • The present invention provides compounds of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein E is an alkylene or alkenylene radical containing 2 carbon atoms, R.sup.1 is a cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing 5 to 12 carbon atoms, which is optionally substituted by up to 4 lower alkyl radicals, as well as halogen atoms, and can optionally be mono- or polyunsaturated, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3, which can be the same or different, are further cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radicals containing 3 to 7 carbon atoms, hydrogen or halogen atoms, trifluoromethyl radicals or alkyl or alkoxy radicals containing up to 7 carbon atoms which can optionally also be substituted with methyl radicals, X is hydroxyl, Y is a residue of an alcohol or a residue of an amine or the group OZ, Z is hydrogen, an alkali metal or ammonium ion or X and Y taken together are --O--. Thus, these compounds are lactones or hydroxy acids of the formulae: ##STR2## wherein E, R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are as stated above, and Z is a hydrogen atom, and alkali metal ion or an ammonium ion; the esters and amides of the free carboxylic acids and the stereoisomeric forms thereof.The present invention also provides processes for the preparation of these compounds and pharmaceutical compositions containing them.

    • A device for the recombination of hydrogen and oxygen includes catalyst bodies having surfaces and a catalytic coating on the surfaces over which a gas and vapor mixture containing hydrogen to be eliminated is to be conducted. A casing which surrounds and retains the catalyst bodies has at least one permanently open gas inlet aperture and one permanently open gas outlet aperture, and a gas flow path in the casing through which the apertures communicate. The catalyst bodies are disposed downstream of the gas inlet aperture in the gas flow path. The catalyst bodies are flat bodies formed of multi-layered sheet metal in a multi-channel configuration forming a plurality of mutually parallel gas flow channels. Some of the gas flow channels have channel cross sections being defined by at least an adjacent two of the flat bodies being spaced-apart, and the gas flow channels at ends of the configuration have channel cross sections being defined by at least one of the flat bodies. The flat bodies each have a metal support sheet, a porous adhesion-promoting surface structure of the support sheet with a thickness of less than 10 .mu.m, a porous intermediate layer, preferably of Al.sub.2 O.sub. 3, applied to the surface structure for increasing surface area, and a catalyst coating of platinum or palladium being applied to the intermediate layer and distributed finely enough to preserve porosity of the intermediate layer.
