    • A device for presenting a halftone pictorial presentation composed of dot picture elements by selectively controlling the number of dot picture elements per unit area at locations on a display. In a high resolution radioactivity distribution detection system, the number of detected radioactive elements at XY locations of an array of sensing devices are fed to a computer and stored at corresponding address locations. The number of radioactive events detected at each address location is normalized into Gray scale coded signals as a function of the greatest number of radioactive events detected at any one address location. The normalized Gray scale coded signals are applied to a display for controlling the number of dot picture elements per unit area presented at corresponding XY locations on the display. The number of radioactive events detected at XY locations of the array are presented on the display as a halftone pictorial representation; the greatest number of picture dot elements per unit are being presented as a brighter image.

    • A computer controlled high resolution radiaoactivity distribution detection system is provided for sensing radioactive events in a biological specimen. The system includes a rotating disc memory which contains instructional data for controlling the computer. Radiation emitted from a subject positioned on programmable XY platform is directed through a collimator and is detected by means of an array of sensing devices and front end electronics. The detected radioactive events are temporarily held in a buffer memory under control of the computer for storage. The temporarily stored data is fed via the computer to a disc memory for long term storage, a disc controller constitutes an interface to the disc memory. The stored data is then applied to a display via computer for presentation.

    • A gamma ray collimator for use in a cardiac inspections system is disclosed which resolves energetically unperturbed gamma rays emitted from a patient and removes inelastic scattered gamma rays. A plurality of collimator elements each have walls, with each wall defining a plane comprised of a first material layer covered by a second material layer and absorbing inelastic scattered gamma rays, the planes being parallel to a central longitudinal axis in each of the collimator elements. The walls of each collimator element define an elongated longitudinal passageway having open ends through which the energetically unperturbed gamma rays enter and leave. The first material layer has a large absorption coefficient for gamma rays, and the second material layer has a large absorption coefficient for inelastically scattered gamma rays generated in the first material layer responsive to gamma rays emitted from the patient.
