    • A method of improving the computation speed of the sum of absolute transformed distances (SATD) for different intra-prediction modes is described. Determining the SATD quicker provides the benefits of better coding performance without suffering the drawbacks of longer computation times. The method of reducing intra-prediction and mode decision processes in a video encoder, implements Hadamard transforms with improvements. Hadamard transforms are performed on an original block and predicted blocks and calculations are only performed where coefficients are non-zero thus skipping the coefficients that are zero. Using such an approach, the calculations required for the Vertical Prediction, Horizontal Prediction and DC Prediction are reduced significantly. Thus, the best intra-prediction mode is able to be determined very efficiently.

    • A method for compositing realistic video game graphics for video games is disclosed. The method includes rendering images of interactive game objects based on the current gameplay and virtual game camera parameters such as a pan angle, tilt angle, roll angle, and zoom data. The rendered images constitute the foreground of a game's display, which is superimposed on prerecorded video content. The prerecorded video content constitutes the background of the game display and may include one or more real live videos or animation transformed from a prerecorded panoramic video based on the virtual game camera parameters and the gameplay. The generation and superimposition of the foreground images and background videos can be performed repeatedly using synchronization methods to dynamically reflect the user actions within the virtual game environment.

    • A method of reducing computations utilizing a threshold to increase efficiency and speed of a video encoder is described. Computations of transform and scaling processes of a video encoder are able to be streamlined by utilizing one or more thresholds stored within one or more lookup tables. A selected threshold is compared with a value before scaling. If the value before scaling is less than the threshold, it is known that the coefficient will be zero and thus no further computations are required. Furthermore, the coefficient is set to zero. If the value before scaling is greater than the threshold, then further calculations are performed. The method is able to be extended to eliminate computations in forward transform as well. By skipping computations when the coefficient is zero, the method eliminates wasted computation power and time.
