摘要： 1343938 An abortifacient device R R ROBINSON 27 July 1971 [29 Dec 1970] 35167/71 Heading A5R An abortifacient device 10 comprises a non- porous hollow body 12 of elastomeric material having a self-sealing orifice (52) Fig. 4 (not shown) formed from the same elastomeric material as the body, capable of distending in the uterus to cause menstruation and consequent abortion. The orifice (52) is attached to a plunger 24 having a bore 30, the plunger 24 being movable within a tube 20. The plunger 24 communicates with and is projected by movement of a syringe 26 which has a shoulder 34 engaging an abutment 36 of the tube 20 when the abortifacient device 10 has been fully ejected from the tube. The plunger 24 has a boss 42 which engages with a shoulder 44 of the tube 20 to limit the extent of retraction of the plunger 24 with the plunger 24 in the retracted position the tube 20 is inserted in a cervix and the plunger projected to expose the abortifacient device 10 in the uterus. Fluid from the syringe 26 is then ejected into the abortifacient device 10. On retraction of the plunger, the distended abortifacient is left in the uterus, being prevented from retraction into the tube 20 by its size. The body 12 may be covered with an incrustation 60, softenable by heat or contact with uterine liquids, so that the body 12 prefilled with pressurized fluid after having been covered by the incrustation, will expand after insertion in the uterus.

Each membrane 48 is secured at only two locations 50, 52, to one leg 44 and the bight 46 of the corresponding hook 38, to permit the device to be folded and housed in an insertion device such as that described in Specification 1,128,290. The membrane 26 may be impregnated with copper particles. A lead 34 may be secured to an eye 32.
