摘要： 19,778. Johason, G. F., and Roberts, W. G. Sept. 5. Damping envelopes; feeding sheets.-Relates to a device for damping and closing envelopes and supplying and affixing gummed labels or stamps. A damping-roller 5 covered with felt or the like is journaled in the side members 2 of a casing 1 which is adapted to be held in the hand. Projections 10 serve, when the device is placed in an inverted position on a desk or the like, to keep the roller 5 out of contact with the desk. The edges of the projections 10 are sharpened for cutting paper, string, &c. A rubber-covered roller' 6 serves for closing envelopes and applying labels or stamps. The labels are contained in a box 13 having pivots 15 which pass through the sides 2 of the casing. The box is held in its upper or closed position by a spring 17 pressed out of the top of the casing and bearing against the back 18 of the box. Tongues 20 on the box have projections which enter recesses in the sides of the casing and are released, when the box is to be opened, by pressing in the sides 2. A spring plate 26 secured to the back of the box 13 presses the labels or the like against a corrugated rubber-covered feed-roller 23. The labels are fed one at a time by rotation of the roller 23, and are guided between flanges 11, 12. A knife 31 for opening letters &c. is pivoted to the casing 1, its motion being limited by a projection 33 which passes beneath the casing. When in its closed position, the knife is supported by a lug 34.
