摘要： A GSM1x (206)-to-GSM (208) handoff feature allows a GSM1x subscriber with a dual-mode (GSM1x and GSM modes) handset (204) to seamlessly roam from GSM1x coverage areas to GSM coverage areas. This functionality is facilitated by the GSM1x system design which integrates a CDMA RAN with a standard GSM core network. The GSM1x system is built using standard CDMA as its air interface and an unmodified CDMA RAN with a standard IOS interface to the MSN (304). The only modifications are done at the MSN (304) and the MS.

摘要： A universal serial bus (USB) device communicates with a USB host over a USB to remotely wake up the USB host over the USB when the USB host is in a low power (e.g., deep sleep) mode. The USB device performs an activity to wake up the USB host. The USB host performs a remote wake up process in response to detecting the activity by the USB device. 摘要： A method of effecting handoff of a mobile station from a first base station in a first cellular communications system (46) controlled by a first mobile switching control station to a second base station in a second, different cellular system (48) controlled by a second mobile switching control station is described. The method comprises measuring at the mobile station a parameter of a signal transmitted by said first base station and a parameter of a signal transmitted by said second base station. When the parameters reach a predetermined condition, a signal quality message is communicated from the mobile station via the first base station to said first mobile switching control station, which responds by generating information for a channel request message for the second mobile switching control station and transmitting the same to the mobile station.

摘要： A system and method are provided for supporting a multi-mode portable user terminal (UT) hard handoff procedure for a call from a wireless local area network (WLAN) to a cellular telephone network. The method includes: establishing a link between a UT and a serving WLAN; establishing a call via the established WLAN link; monitoring the WLAN link signal strength; simultaneously monitoring a serving cellular network; initiating a hard handoff to the cellular network, responsive to the monitored WLAN link signal strength falling below a minimum threshold; and, continuing the call via the cellular network. More specifically, the method initiates a call handoff to a Cellular Gateway (CGW) telephone number, responsive to the monitored WLAN link signal strength falling below the minimum threshold. Then, continuing the call via the cellular network includes continuing the call to the first telephone number via the CGW handoff telephone number.

摘要： A system and a method are provided for supporting a hard handoff procedure for a call from a wireless local area network (WLAN) to a cellular telephone network. The method includes: establishing a link between a user terminal (UT) and a serving WLAN, and a call via the WLAN link; simultaneously monitoring a serving cellular telephone network; forwarding information identifying the UT within the cellular network, to the serving WLAN; in response to losing the link with the serving WLAN, performing a hard handoff to the cellular network; and, continuing the call via the cellular network. Generally, the hard handoff can be performed if the WLAN is able to communicate the UT's identity to the cellular telephone, as the UT's position can be determined by the cellular network. The hard handoff is performed with the UT receiving resource allocations in a common control channeLmessage, such as a Short Message Ser vice (SMS) or paging message.

摘要： A method of authenticating a mobile station (18) from a first base station (12) in a first cellular communications system controlled by a first mobile switching control station (10) to a second base station (14) in a second, different cellular system controlled by a second mobile switching control station is described. The method comprises generating at the second cellular communication system an authentication code as the result of applying an algorithm to a private key assigned to the mobile station for the second cellular communications system and a random number generated by the second cellular communications system. An authentication code is also generated at the first cellular communication system as the result of applying an algorithm to the private key and the random number. The authentication code generated at the first cellular communication system is then transmitted to a mobile station in a data packet, and, from there, the authentication code is transmitted to the second cellular communication system. The authentication code generated at the first cellular communications system is then compared with the authentication code generated at the second cellular communications system.
