    • A connector apparatus is discussed for linking orthopedic elongated members, the apparatus having a connector body defining a first channel configured to receive a first elongate member and a second channel configured to receive a second elongate member. The channels are each defined by an inner contact surface configured to engage the corresponding elongate member. The first channel is U-shaped and opens at a top surface of the body. Additionally, the first channel includes an inner threaded portion configured to receive a first threaded retaining member to secure the first elongate member in the first channel. The second channel opens at a side surface of the body. Preferably, the channels open in substantially perpendicular directions. Additionally, the connector body defines a threaded through-hole, in communication with the second channel, configured to receive a second threaded retaining member to secure the second elongate member in the second channel.

    • A bone anchor assembly is provided, which may be used in cervical, thoracic, lumbar or sacral areas of the spine or other orthopedic locations. The anchor assembly includes a bone anchor, a receiver mounted to the bone anchor, a saddle within the receiver, a spacer within the receiver, and an engaging member. The receiver extends along a central longitudinal axis proximally away from the bone anchor. A rod or other elongated connecting element is received in a passage of the receiver in contact with the saddle, and the engaging member engages the connecting element against the saddle, which engages the saddle against the spacer, which in turn engages the proximal head of the bone anchor in the receiver. The orientation of the saddle in the receiver is adjustable to correspond to the orientation of the connecting element relative to the central longitudinal axis of the receiver.

    • A connector apparatus (20) for linking spinal rods comprises a connector body having a C-shaped engagement portion (22) contiguous a closed engagement portion (24). The engagement portions each include an opening (26, 28) to receive a rod, each opening including an inner contact surface to engage the rod. Additionally, each engagement portion includes a through-hole to receive a screw (42, 44), the through-holes being aligned substantially perpendicular to a longitudinal axis (L) of the connector body. The through-hole and screw (42) corresponding to the C-shaped engagement portion are offset from the corresponding rod when the rod is positioned in the corresponding opening (26). Additionally, the screws are advanced through the through-holes to urge the rods against the inner contact surfaces to engage the connector body to the rods. The connector apparatus creates a low profile, top tightening fixation system, providing a stable, rigid transverse connection between adjacent spinal rods.
