Relates to means for atomizing and supplying to an internal-combustion engine the less volatile liquids used for fuel, such as petroleum and alcohol, to enable the engine to be started without preliminary heating. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, a chamber c is bored in the casing a of the air-admission valve b of the engine, and provided with a small outlet c' normally closed by the valve. A small pipe e, fitted in the chamber c, is provided near the outlet c with a nozzle e of fine bore, and is connected to the supply of liquid fuel in a chamber f. The surface of the liquid fuel is arranged at a lower level than the nozzle e so as to prevent the accumulation of liquid around the pipe above the orifice. Compressed air from a pipe h is supplied to the chamber f and passes to the chamber c through a pipe g surrounding the pipe e. During the suction stroke of the engine, air from a pipe i having an adjustable inlet lifts the valve b from its seating and passes to the cylinder of the engine. The atomized liquid fuel then flows through the aperture c' until, at the end of the suction stroke, the valve is returned to its seating. The fuel may be conveyed through the valve spindle to ports in the valve face. Instead of using the admission valve of the engine for the supply of atomized liquid fuel, an additional valve may be provided in the cover of the exhaust valve, an additional supply of air being admitted through peripheral inlets in the cover regulated by a perforated ring. According to the Provisional Specification, the fuel supplie by this arrangement may supplement that supplied by an ordinary carburettor to meet a temporary increase of load, or be substituted for it at starting.

    • Diseases and conditions associated with tissues of the body, including but not limited to tissues in the eye, can be effectively treated, prevented, inhibited, onset delayed, or regression caused by administering therapeutic agents to those tissues. Described herein are ophthalmic formulations that deliver a variety of therapeutic agents, including but not limited to rapamycin (sirolimus), analogs thereof (rapalogs) or other mTOR inhibitors, to a subject for an extended period of time. The ophthalmic formulations may be placed in an aqueous medium of a subject, including but not limited to intraocular or periocular administration, or placement proximate to a site of a disease or condition to be treated in a subject. A method may be used to administer a therapeutic agent to treat or prevent age-related macular degeneration, macular edema, diabetic retinopathy, uveitis, dry eye, or a hyperpermeability disease in a subject.
