摘要： Apparatus for coating curved printing plates 44 comprises a vertical shaft (10, Fig. 1) and means for rotating it, an auxiliary shaft 22 inclined to the vertical and supported by the vertical shaft 10 for rotation therewith, and mounted for rotation on its own axis; the auxiliary shaft carries a plate mount 46, and both are enclosed in a substantially liquid-tight housing 14 in which means, fixed relatively to the housing, engages with the auxiliary shaft and causes it to rotate at an independent rate of rotation on rotation of the vertical shaft. The means may comprise a fixed gear 20 which is engaged by a planetary gear 26 mounted on the auxiliary shaft 22. The vertical shaft 10 may be driven by a reversible electric motor 12. Filtered and heated air is circulated through the housing by a blower 30, the operation of the heater being controlled by a temperature-responsive unit 39, and a further unit 40 being provided to stop the operation of the machine if the temperature of the air leaving through the vent 42 exceeds a desired upper limit. A conduit 48, having an opening coincident with the axis of the shaft 10, is provided for applying resist solution to the plate 44, and fluid inlets 50 and a drain 54 permit solvent being circulated through the housing to remove surplus resist solution. In a modification, the axis of the auxiliary shaft is approximately horizontal, and the printing plate is supported so as to have its axis coincident therewith. U.S.A. Contact printing apparatus for a curved plate comprises a curved plate holder 12 to which the plate and negative are pressed by a resilient blanket 40 having a transparent region 44 for passage therethrough of light from a source on the convex side of the curved resilient blanket, the latter being held firmly at its margins to the plate holder by suction means. As shown in Fig. 1 the light source 60 is mounted on the inside of a semicylindrical cover 62 which can swing down to cover the blanket. Suction is provided by pump 24 connected by a conduit manifold to a groove round the edges of the plate holder into which the marginal regions of the blanket are drawn. An additional conduit provides suction at the edges of the plate and negative. Preferably, the side of the blanket towards the plate holder has a pattern of waffle-like protuberances (Fig. 6) to allow withdrawal of air via the manifold from virtually the entire underside of the blanket.
