Drip-feed apparatus; distributing liquid over solid in generators; separating residue from unused solid in generators. - An acetylene generator comprises an inverted outer case detachably secured to a base by pivoted bolts and fly-nuts, an upright ash-container in the case, and a carbide-holder swingingly mounted in the ash-container. In the construction shown, the case a is attached to a base b by pivoted bolts and fly-nuts c, the ash-container i is removably attached to the base by a screw j, and the carbide-holder A is supported by pins l in slots, preferably of the bayonet-joint type, in lugs m. Water is supplied from the chamber d by a needle valve f and drips on to a perforated trough n, which distributes it over the carbide; the gas generated passes through a perforated plate r into the chamber e provided with a tap s. THe generator may be mounted on motor-vehicles, motor-cycles, etc.; the shaking causes the carbide-holder to swing. A modified construction of carbide-holder consists of two hemispheres of wire mesh held together by a bayonet-joint and supported similarly to the form shown. The generator can be readily taken to pieces and re-assembled.
