[Also in Division G2] A cell 1, having a chamber for a liquid being optically examined, is provided with a tubular gas delivery member 10 which extends through the mouth 2 of cell 1 and is adjustable between an operative position in which its outlet is adjacent the bottom 17 of the chamber and a withdrawn position in which it does not interfere with the examination of the liquid in the chamber, a gas inlet 12 to gas delivery member 10 being closed by withdrawal and/or by axial rotation of the member 10, and a gas collecting vessel 20 having a sealable outlet 24 being connected to the mouth 2 so as to receive gas which has passed through the liquid in the chamber. As shown, the member 10, which is operable by a handle 11, extends through a stopper 8 in a ground tube 7 forming part of the vessel 6, the inlet 12 being capable of alignment with a bore 13 in the stopper 8 and a nozzle 15 on the vessel 6. Liquid 20 in the vessel 6 may be added to the chamber as required. The gas outlet 24 is in a rotatable stopper 22 seated in a ground tube 21. In a modification the rotatable stopper has an elongated tube extending into the liquid 20 and a further gas outlet is provided. In further forms two or four liquid continer parts are provided in the gas collecting vessel positioned symmetrically around its connection to the mouth 2.

A liquid sample cell of rectangular crosssection has its sample chamber defined by a first pair of opposite side walls at least part of which are transparent to form the light entry and exit windows and a second pair of opposite side walls 20 forming inner walls of a passage defined in the cell for the flow of a temperature controlling fluid around the outside of the chamber via a communicating portion extending across one end thereof. As shown, the inner walls 20 are bent into U-shape to provide a base 20 1 forming one wall of the communicating portion. The temperature controlling fluid flows in and out of the passage via nipples at the upper end of the cell. To allow sample liquid to flow out of the chamber a central exit may be provided at the lower end Fig.6a (not shown). If existing radiation is required, as in fluorescence measurements, windows may be provided through the fluid-flow passage either in the sides or base of the cell Fig. 6 (not shown).

A cell having a chamber 5, Fig. 7, for the liquid being optically examined, is provided with a liquid flow passage 9 extending parallel to a major dimension of the chamber 5, one end of the passage 9 communicating with the chamber 5 and the other end opening to the outside of the cell via an openable and closable valve 16. As shown the cell is of rectangular cross-section, with one side wall thicker than the remainder and being bored to form the passage 9. The valve 16 is provided in a head member which also has a ground aperture receiving the ground mouthpiece 13 of a reaction vessel 14 1 containing a chemical which may be added to the chamber 5 as required. Gases formed in chamber 5 may also be withdrawn through stopper 26 1 or the latter may be rotated to close the outlet from vessel 14 1 . In a modification the reaction vessel has no outlet through a stopper 26 1 and the mouthpiece 13 has a bore (23), Fig.1 (not shown) which may be aligned, or not as required, with an outlet passage in the head member (2) by rotation of the whole reaction vessel (14). In a further form, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown) the reaction vessel is omitted and the upper outlet from chamber (5) is through a ground mouthpiece (28) to which a flexible tube may be fitted.

    • The invention relates to a method for synchronizing RF antenna signals (5a to 5i) of a plurality of RF antenna sites (3a to 3i) arranged at different locations of a radio transmission system (1b), the method comprising; generating a reference signal (7) in a reference oscillator (6) located at a central unit (2) of the radio transmission system (1b), transmitting the reference signal (7) as an optical signal from the central unit (2) to the RF antenna sites (3a to 3i) via a plurality of optical fiber links (9a″ to 9i″), and using the transmitted reference signal (7) for synchronizing the RF antenna signals (5a to 5i) of the different RF antenna sites (3a to 3i), The invention also relates to a radio transmission system (1b).
