    • An apparatus for determining a position of a mechanical edge of a reference edge of a sheet of recording media on an imaging drum, the system includes an imaging drum comprising a cylindrical surface and a drum slot in the cylindrical surface, the drum slot extending in an axial direction and comprising a reflective layer; an illumination source for illuminating the drum slot; a digital camera for imaging the drum slot in a vicinity of the reference edge; and a clamp for mounting the sheet of recording media on the imaging drum in an orientation wherein the reference edge extends along the cylindrical surface of the imaging drum in substantially the axial direction.

    • A method of forming an image on recording media includes providing a rotatable imaging drum adapted for supporting the recording media; providing an imaging head adapted for forming the image on the supported recording media; providing an encoder adapted for detecting incremental rotational positions of the imaging drum; positioning the imaging drum at a non-incremental rotational position; detecting one or more points on an edge of the supported recording media while the imaging drum is positioned at the non-incremental rotational position; determining a position of each of the detected one or more points; and operating the imaging head to form the image on the supported recording media in alignment with at least the determined position of each of the detected one or more points.

    • A recording apparatus includes a media support adapted to receive recording media. One or more guide members are attached to the support and extend along a first direction substantially perpendicular to a first neutral axis and a second neutral axis associated with an assemblage comprising at least the support and the guide members. A carriage is adapted to move along the guide members and operable for moving a recording head along a path relative to the media support while forming an image on the recording media. One or more thermal compensation members is fixedly attached to the support to reduce distortions of the assemblage about both the first neutral axis. The second neutral axis, the distortions arise from a difference in thermal expansion between the each of the one or more guide members and the support.

    • A method for determining a position of a mechanical edge of a reference edge of a sheet of recording media relative to a first edge of a drum slot in a cylindrical surface of an imaging drum, the method includes: mounting the sheet of recording media on the imaging drum in an orientation wherein the reference edge extends along the cylindrical surface of the imaging drum in a substantially axial direction and wherein the reference edge extends over the first edge of the drum slot; establishing at least one acute apex diffuse light source in the slot; capturing at least one digital camera image of the reference edge and the at least one acute apex diffuse light source; and determining from the at least one digital camera image a location of at least one point on the mechanical edge.
