    • A double-acting cylinder piston unit for controlling the feed motion of a saw blade relative to a workpiece in a mechanical frame saw having a stationary machine frame, a housing part pivotally mounted on the machine frame and a saw frame guide movably mounted in the housing part and carrying a saw blade. The piston of the cylinder piston unit is pivotally connected to the machine frame, while the cylinder thereof is pivotally connected to the pivotally mounted housing part. The cylinder includes a cylinder head in the form of a block, and the unit includes a reservoir delimited by one face of the block, a first wall extending from, and substantially perpendicular to, the one face and a second wall spaced from, and substantially parallel to, the face. The block is provided with two bores each defining a portion of a flow path between a respective cylinder chamber and the reservoir; each bore communicates with its associated valve and forms the seat for a throttle valve communicating with its associated chamber. A flow path between the reservoir and one cylinder chamber includes a tube extending within the cylinder and along the axis thereof from that bore in the block which forms a part of the same flow path. The piston is provided with an axially extending bore communicating with the one cylinder chamber and into which said tube extends, and the piston bore is sealed in a manner to permit relative movement, in the axial direction of the cylinder, between the tube and the piston.

    • A severing machine including a feed device for cutting tool arranged to advance continuously to effect cutting of a workpiece, a machine stand with a workpiece supporting table and clamping jaws, and a machine head containing the tool movable relative to the table during cutting. The feed device controls the relative movement of the head in the feed direction and comprises: a ball roller spindle rotatably supported by the stand and provided with outer helical threads, the spindle having a length greater than the maximum feed displacement of the portion of the head in the region of the spindle; two spaced-apart axial bearings carried by the head; a freewheel coupling positioned between the axial bearings and composed of an inner race in threaded engagement with the spindle and having a thread pitch outside of the range of self-locking with the spindle thread, an outer race carried by, and rotatable freely relative to, the inner race, and a coupling mechanism coupling the races together in a manner to permit the outer race to rotate freely relative to the inner race in the direction of rotation of the inner race relative to the spindle during movement of the head in the feed direction, the outer race being driven in that direction of rotation at a rate which is a function of the tool advance; a braked drive motor connected for rotating the spindle; and a unit for adjusting the weight loading by the head on the freewheel coupling.

    • A storage systems for storing and retrieving rod-shaped material, includes a plurality of pallets for accommodating the material, each pallet has a material-supporting bottom inclined transversely to the length dimension of the pallet; a device for storing the pallets; a withdrawal apparatus for retrieving a selected one of the pallets from the storing device; a positioning device in the withdrawal apparatus for adjusting the longitudinal and transverse position of the pallet and for lifting the pallet against stops in the withdrawal apparatus; an apparatus for lifting the material out of, and lowering it into a pallet disposed in the withdrawal apparatus. The apparatus has at least two lifters arranged serially with respect to the length of the pallet disposed in the withdrawal apparatus. The lifters are moved in unison vertically through apertures provided in the bottom of the pallet for engaging and moving the material with respect to the pallet. There are further provided abutments projecting from a side of the pallet inwardly thereof for cooperating with the lifters to arrest their upward motion when the lifted material has reached, above the pallet, a predetermined position from which it is displaceable transversely to the length of the pallet onto a conveyor leading to a cutting machine. At the upper end of each lifter there is attached a rocker cooperating with an associated abutment and arranged for a swinging motion about an axis extending parallel to the length of the pallet disposed in the withdrawal apparatus. The axis is situated eccentrically with respect to the width of the pallet, in the direction of the higher-lying side of the pallet bottom.
