摘要： This invention relates to a light duty tire (e.g. passenger tire or light duty truck tire) designed for a load bearing capacity of a maximum of 3,500 pounds (1587 kg) with a tread of a cap/base construction with at least one underlying silica-rich, cis 1,4-polyisoprene rubber based intermediate transition rubber layer to promote a reduced internal heat generation for the light duty tire and to therefore promote a light load carrying light duty tire which is more durable for the long haul. Such light duty tire tread is intended for use with light loads in which internal heat may be generated within the tire, including the tire tread, during use.

摘要： This invention relates to a tire with a tread of a natural rubber-rich rubber composition. A partial replacement of the natural rubber in the tire tread is accomplished by an inclusion of a specialized emulsion polymerization prepared styrene/butadiene rubber (specialized E-SBR) having a glass transition temperature (Tg) similar to the Tg of natural cis 1,4-polyisoprene rubber. A significant aspect of the invention is a partial replacement of natural cis 1,4-polyisoprene rubber in the tread rubber composition. The specialized E-SBR has a Tg in a range of from about −70 to about −60° C. and a bound styrene content in a range of from about 12 to about 16 percent.

摘要： The neodymium catalyst system prepared by the technique of this invention can be used in the polymerization of isoprene monomer into synthetic polyisoprene rubber having an extremely high cis-microstructure content and high stereo regularity. This polyisoprene rubber will crystallize under strain and can be compounded into rubber formulations in a manner similar to natural rubber. This invention more specifically discloses a process for the synthesis of polyisoprene rubber which comprises polymerizing isoprene monomer in the presence of a neodymium catalyst system, wherein the neodymium catalyst system is prepared by a process that comprises (1) reacting a neodymium carboxylate with an organoaluminum compound in an organic solvent to produce neodymium-aluminum catalyst component, and (2) subsequently reacting the neodymium-aluminum catalyst component with an elemental halogen to produce the neodymium catalyst system, wherein the neodymium catalyst system is void of nickel-containing compounds.

摘要： This invention relates to a rubber composition and tire having at least one component of a rubber composition comprised of at least one diene-based elastomer, to the exclusion of butyl type elastomers, which contains an internal dispersion of corncob granules. Such tire component may be, for example, a tire tread and/or cord reinforced rubber ply and/or belt. A tire tread intended for winter driving, although not necessarily limited to winter driving, is provided of a rubber composition containing at least one diene-based sulfur vulcanizable elastomer having a Tg below −30° C. and an internal dispersion therein of corncob granules. The running surface of the tire tread is configured with a combination of micro-protrusions of corncob granules from said corncob granule internal dispersion and micro-cavities therein created by a release of a portion of the protruded corncob granules during the abrading, or wearing, of the tire tread running surface as the tire is being run. At least a portion of said corncob granular micro-protrusions may be covered by a relatively thin membrane of tread rubber. The corncob granules may be colored with a suitable colorant of a non-black color to contrast with the tire tread color to better visualize their presence on the tread running surface. The tire tread rubber composition may optionally also contain a starch/plasticizer composite, sorbitan ester, methylene donor compound, methylene acceptor compound or combination of methylene donor and acceptor compounds, and may be reinforced with carbon black, synthetic amorphous silica aggregates or their combination.

摘要： The invention relates to a tire having a circumferential rubber tread of a cap/base construction composed of a cap rubber layer as the tire running surface and an internal base rubber layer underlying said tread cap layer. The said tread cap layer is composed of a primary tread cap portion and one or two lateral tread cap portions of rubber compositions containing precipitated silica and/or rubber reinforcing carbon black reinforcement and wherein the rubber composition of at least one of said lateral tread cap portions contains a dispersion of short carbon fibers. Said primary tread cap portion contains a major portion of the running surface of the tread and is comprised of a silica-rich or carbon black-rich, preferably silica-rich, reinforcement-containing rubber composition, and said lateral tread portion(s) contains a minor portion of the running surface of the tread and is comprised of a silica-rich or carbon black-rich, preferably carbon black-rich, reinforcement-containing rubber composition. Where said primary tread cap portion is comprised of a silica-rich rubber composition, said lateral tread cap portion(s) is comprised of a carbon black-rich rubber composition and visa versa. The said tread cap portions are load bearing portions in the sense of extending from the running surface of the tread radially inward to said underlying tread base layer. In one aspect, the portioned rubber tread cap layer and the rubber tread base layer are co-extruded together to form a unitary composite thereof.
