摘要： 1282974 Battery charging systems using twopart couplings P J JOHNSON 27 April 1970 [24 July 1969] 20080/70 Headings H2E and H2H A vehicle 1 provided with a battery 8 which can be charged by means of a coupling which has a fixed male section 9 and a female section 10 carried by the vehicle, the male section being connected to a battery charging device 26 and the female section to the battery 8. The male section comprises a pair of electrodes 20 carried by an insulating bar 16, each electrode being normally covered by a compressible rubber device 24 in which is embedded a spring 25. The female section comprises a pair of hollow electrodes 38 which may be integral with the bumper 33 of the vehicle or carried above the bumper in an insulating fitting 34. Thus when the vehicle battery 8 requires charging the vehicle is driven against the section 9 so that the electrodes 38 slide over the electrodes 20 compressing the rubber device 24. A pilot light 31 is provided to indicate charging. The position of the electrodes 38 is adjustable.

Metal cans or the like are disintegrated by tumbling in a cylinder 17 containing electrodes 47 which generate arcs when they are bridged by the tumbling can. The cylinder made of a heatresistant dielectric is mounted on rollers 20 and driven by a shaft 21 rotatable in bearings 24, 27 by electric motor 28. A plurality of carbon electrodes 47 are secured to the cylinder ; alternate electrodes are connected together by wires such as 51 and to slip-rings 39 fed through a controller 33 by a transformer 35. The disintegrated cans fall as ash through holes 46 in the cylinder wall, into ash drawer 18. An electrical control circuit is described with an interlock to prevent operation unless the access door 43 to the cylinder is closed.
