摘要： Transparent, water-resistant, resinous products are obtained by heating urea in an aqueous, alkaline solution of formaldehyde, containing about 2-2,5 mols. of formaldehyde per mol. of urea, by first boiling for 5 minutes, then maintaining at 50-80 DEG C. for a short period of about 30 minutes, concentrating at the same temperature until the weight of the solution is 2,075-2,175 times the weight of the urea originally employed, care being taken that the pH value of the solution does not fall below 7, and, within 90 minutes from the initial boiling, acidifying to pH of 5\pm0,25 and casting the solution in a mould maintained at a temperature of 74-76 DEG C. until the resin solidifies to a gel (18-22 hours) and finally drying the solidified resin in air at a temperature not exceeding 34 DEG C. The solution may be momentarily heated to 90 DEG C. upon acidification. Drying may be at 34 DEG C. for 6-7 days. Concentration is effected at 70 DEG C. under reduced pressure, e.g. 75 mm. of mercury, or less. A mixture of urea with less than 1/20 mol. of thiourea may be employed.

摘要： A plug 1 to allow for cement placement during well abandonment comprising a body 2, 3 having external flexible fins 5 or vanes for anchoring the plug in a wellbore, swell-able elastomers 6 to create a seal between the plug and well casing, a disconnect mandrel 4 having a surge reduction release valve and a slick-line cement stinger (21, fig 5) for placing the cement. The plug may have multiple body sections 2, 3 connected with a mandrel 7. The swell-able elements are preferably located between the fins. The disconnect mandrel 4 includes a shear release mechanism arranged to shear the connection in response to sufficient hydraulic pressure being supplied. The disconnect mandrel preferably leaves the slick-line cement stinger at the plug location after disconnection.

Mineral oils, purifying. - Aromatic and unsaturated hydrocarbons are absorbed from mineral oils by shaking the oils with phenol containing a small quantity of water. (1) The mineral oil is agitated with an equal (or more or less) volume of phenol, containing 5 to 15 per cent but preferably not more than 10 per cent of water, at a temperature above the setting point of the phenol, is then allowed to rest at a temperature below the miscibility point, and the layers are separated. (2) Water (pure or phenolic) preferably in proportion of 10 to 20 per cent is added to the separated phenol layer with gentle agitation, and the liquid allowed to rest, when an oily layer containing the aromatic &c. hydrocarbons floats off the top, and is separated. (3) the remaining phenol layer is agitated at a temperature above 70‹ C. (but preferably between 90 and 100 degrees centigrade) with pure or phenolic water in such a proportion that by dissolving the phenol under treatment quantitatively it will form a solution of 15 to 20 per cent phenol content; the liquid is allowed to settle at the same temperature, and the top oily layer separated. (4) The top oily layer in stage (3) is washed with a large excess of water (pure or phenolic) at above 90‹ C., the water separated, and then used in stage (2) and/or stage (3). (5) The lower layer in stage 3 consisting of a solution of phenol in water is cooled to a temperature below approximately 40‹ C., and the emulsion thereby formed broken by centrifugal means or filtration; the phenol layer is separated from the aqueous layer. (6) The phenolic water obtained in stage (5) is used for the purpose of stage (4). (7) The phenol obtained in stage (5) is concentrated by heating the same to a temperature of 110-120‹ C. and is used for treating a fresh batch of mineral oil as described in stage (1).

The tool provides the angler with the security that their equipment will be safe. The tool includes a hollow, tubular storage chamber having one open end for inserting an end of a fishing rod therein. The storage chamber may include a buoyant material at a closed end thereof. A flexible strap extends from the open end of the storage chamber to run along the length of the fishing rod. An adjustable loop at the end of the flexible strap is adapted to loop around the reel end of the rod and can be held in place by the reel. One or more straps can be disposed along the flexible strap to secure the flexible strap to the rod. One or more rods may be carried by the tool.

摘要： Presenilin Associated Membrane Protein (PAMP), and nucleic acids encoding this protein, are provided. PAMP and PAMP nucleic acids provide diagnostic and therapeutic tools for evaluating and treating or preventing neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric disorders. In a specific embodiment, mutations in PAMP are diagnostic for schizophrenia. The invention further relates to screening, particularly using high-throughput screens and transgenic animal models, for compounds that modulate the activity of PAMP and presenilins. Such compounds, or gene therapy with PAMP, can be used in treating neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric disorders, particularly schizophrenia. In addition, the invention provides PAMP mutants, nucleic acids encoding for PAMP mutants, and transgenic animals expressing PAMP mutants, which in a preferred aspect result in biochemical, morphological, or neuropsychological changes similar to those associated with schizophrenia.
