    • A method, apparatus and program product are provided to optimize film cooling performance for turbomachinery components. A design space is defined by selecting process variables and limits. A random initial population of a plurality of designs is provided using Latin hypersquare sampling, varying the process variables across the design space. Each design of the plurality of designs is evaluated. A fitness function value is determined based on a performance of each of the evaluated designs of the plurality of designs. A half of the plurality of designs having higher fitness function values is selected. Designs of the selected half of the plurality of designs are randomly paired to generate two new designs from each random pair of designs forming a plurality of new designs.

    • The present invention provides an electrical machine 1 with reduced cogging. The magnet poles 3 of the electrical machine are comprised of at least two separate groups of at least two circumferentially adjacent magnet poles. One of the circumferentially outer magnet poles 3 in one of the groups of magnet poles is defined as being in its reference position. The reference position of each other magnet pole 3 is defined as the position each other magnet pole would occupy if all the magnet poles were equally circumferentially spaced around the first or second body and the one circumferentially outer pole was in its reference position. At least one of the circumferentially outer magnet poles 3 in each group is sited in its reference position. At least one magnet pole 3 in each group is a displaced magnet pole and is sited in a position that is displaced from its reference position by an amount that is not equal to an integral multiple of the reference angular pitch of the winding slots. The displacement of the magnet poles 3 provides a pronounced reduction in cogging.

    • A work vehicle with a tool pivotally attached to a linkage, an actuator for controllably moving the tool about its pivot, and a tilt angle sensor for sensing the absolute angle of the work tool relative to the earth. A controller is adapted to perform an auto-hold function for the tool, automatically maintaining an initial tool orientation by commanding movement of the tool actuator to hold the work tool at about the initial or set absolute angle of the tool. The controller is adapted to discontinue the tool auto-hold function when the operator manipulates a tool command input device affecting tool actuator movement, and resume the tool auto-hold function at the new orientation affected by the operator. Manipulation of an auto-hold command input device allows the operator to selectively enable and disable the tool auto-hold function.
