      SOLUTION: An attenuating device 1 is designed to attenuate the movements of at least one component of an automobile triggered during the collision of the automobile and an outside object. The device is equipped with a gunpowder actuator 22, which can relocate a piston 9. Further, this attenuation device 1 contains a wire 21, one end of which is connected with a fixed portion 27 of the automobile body, and the actuator fitted to the position, where the attenuation is expected to occur, reciprocally works with the wire to delay and stop the movement of the attenuation portion. The actuator, meanwhile, is linked to a support 20, which is connected to the attenuation portion, while the support is fitted with two stoppers 24 for guiding the wire.

      SOLUTION: This invention relates to safety of an automobile including a device for cutting, for example, a structure such as an instrument panel to actuate a safety device. Especially, this cutting device (1) cuts a structure constituting one part of the automobile. The device comprises a linear-shaped gunpowder (5) arranged in a flatten deformable tube (6). The tube (6) is deformed in a manner to enlarge a cross section of the tube (6) by combustion of the gunpowder (5), so that the structure (3) is destroyed by the deformation. A main characteristic of the cutting device is that combustion speed of the gunpowder (5) is lower than 3,000 m/sec.
