摘要： A system is provided in which a DRM service platform (2) is configured to dispense rights objects (RO) to media players (1) that are uniquely identifiable by way of unique identification data (GUID) with the digital media files encrypted into content objects (CO) that require a content object key (COk) in order to decrypt the content thereof and make it available, in real¬ time. The content object key is embodied in a rights object that is in turn transmitted to a particular media player in an encrypted format capable of decryption utilising at least some of the unique identification data of the particular media player and each media player has a processor capable of decrypting content objects in real-time to render the digital media files usable. Computer means (6) are interposed between a DRM service platform and a media player and are configured to share a unique interface key (IK) for communications with each unique media player and to decrypt a rights object received from the DRM service platform to retrieve the content object key contained therein and re-encrypt it with the unique interface key for onward transmission to the particular media player that is enabled to decrypt the content object key utilising its unique interface key.

摘要： An information retrieval and delivery system is provided in which information data procured in response to a request received from a satellite information terminal is retrieved in text format; text extraction means (118) separates text data from mixtures of text and graphics data and resulting text is converted to speech by conversion means (61) and the resultant audio data is transferred to a portable information storage device (10) (herein termed a portable device) having audible output means (22). The portable device has interface means (42) for interfacing with the satellite information terminal (50) for transferring data procured to the portable device. The satellite information terminal is connectable to at least one remote back-end system (100) from or by way of which information data may be procured by the satellite information terminal. A single satellite information terminal services a multiplicity of participants or participant groups each of which is provided with a portable device that is capable of intermittent coupling with the satellite information terminal for the purpose of transfer of data. Each portable device is uniquely identifiable by the satellite information terminal.

摘要： A telephone (1) is provided that has an electronic operating circuit the operation of which is enabled according to credit value stored in an operating purse (13) and disabled in the event of inadequate credit value being present in the operating purse. Transfer means (18, 20) are provided to transfer a predetermined amount of credit value for a particular usage session to the operating purse of the telephone from a separate bulk storage purse (21) located elsewhere than in the telephone. Preferably, the transfer means are also enabled to return residual credit value not utilised during any particular usage session from the operating purse to the separate bulk storage purse. The operating purse is preferably an internal operating purse (13) located within the telephone itself and the separate bulk storage purse is contained in a separate portable purse module that can take the form of an item of paraphernalia such as a tag for a keyring.
