    • This invention relates to an implant and an implant technique for the interposition of an extracardiac conduit between a ventricle of a beating heart and a nearby blood vessel to form an alternative one-way blood pathway thereby bypassing a native diseased heart valve. More specifically, the present Invention provides a prosthetic heart valve housing adopted to allow blood flow. The prosthetic heart valve housing comprises an inlet conduit element, an inlet valve housing element, an outlet valve housing element, and an outlet conduit element. To allow only one-way blood flow through the prosthetic heart valve housing, the inlet and outlet valve housing elements of the prosthetic heart valve housing are adopting to hold a surgeon selected prosthetic heart valve. One element common to many of these valve designs is an annular cuff or sealing gasket located around the periphery of the working valve.

    • The invention is a tapered bore connector comprising a body having a conical bore with a central axis that forms an opening in the body. At least one compound cantilevered flange is attached to the body and extends a predetermined distance from the body in an outward radial direction relative to the conical bore axis and also extends a predetermined distance from the body in a circumferential direction relative to the conical bore axis. In operation, when the tapered bore connector is fully engaged with a compatible tapered shaft connector having an internally threaded locking collar, the compound cantilevered flange is deflected thereby generating an additional restraining force that dissuades premature disconnection.

To maximize flow through the prosthetic heart valve housing, the major internal diameters of the valve housing elements are larger than the minor internal diameters of both the outlet conduit element and the inlet conduit element. To minimize adverse tissue healing response or adverse blood interaction, the blood contacting surfaces are all composed of a common material.

The pulse generator senses the load impedance and adjusts the output impedance to match the load impedance. The generator measures the relative electrical energy produced by an arc in response to a pulse, compares the relative electrical energy to a predetermined value to determine an energy difference, and adjusts the energy of a subsequent pulse to reduce the energy difference toward zero.
