    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compensate for the drift of a baseline by predicting and compensating the shift amounts of the base line of a received signal by using a multi-tap filter, and changing a filter coefficient in accordance with the error of a preceding predicted result. SOLUTION: An adder 210 adds predicted shift S' from an adaptive DC compensator 138 to a sample Rx' constituted of a transmission signal Tx- baseline shift S, and generates a compensated level Tx'. A slicer 139 converts the compensated level Tx' into a symbol level Tx in a 208 level suited to a protocol and outputs it. An adder 230 calculates the difference between the symbol level Tx equivalent to error amounts ΔS in the case of uncorrected base line shift, that is, predicted shift S' and the corrected level Tx'. An adaptive FIR filter 240 and an integrator 250 generate new predicted shift S' from the previous predicted shift S' by several number of times and the uncorrected shift ΔS.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To emulate a hardware UART through a software program by allowing a callback procedure of a computer system to return a value returned by the hardware UART in response to read of an instruction from an address relating to a communication port. SOLUTION: An operating system 132 calls an I/O callback procedure 138 in response to an access to a COM port corresponding to a MODEM 136. The callback procedure 138 replies the access like a 16550 UART and records a written value (e.g. 0xc1) in response to the write to an FIFO control register(FCR). The callback procedure 138 replies a succeeding read of the FCR and returns the written value (e.g. 0xc1). A program interprets a response of the callback procedure 138 so as to be the response suitable for the 16550 UART and discriminates that the MODEM 136 includes the 16550 UART.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for decoding a wireless signal from a set of samples with an embedded training sequence. SOLUTION: The method includes steps of determining a first frequency offset from the samples where the first frequency offset is assumed to be less than a Nyquist frequency of the training sequence, and calculating a first carrier to interference ratio based on the first frequency offset. The method further includes steps of determining a second frequency offset from the samples by subtracting an absolute value of the first frequency offset from an integer multiple of the Nyquist frequency and giving the second frequency offset a sign opposite to that of the first frequency offset, calculating a second carrier to interference ratio based on the second frequency offset, and selecting one of the first and second frequency offsets based on relative values of the calculated carrier to interference ratios.
