    • A sewing maching having associated modules which can be inserted at will and which are interchangeable in a guide of the housing of the machine. The front side of the plate-shaped modules is visible in the inserted condition of the module and is provided with stitch symbols to which are assigned numbers. On the inside of the modules are arranged memories, preferably in connection with a microprocessor, which are in connection with the microprocessor of the sewing machine when the modules are inserted. By means of keys and a display, the number corresponding to the desired stitch sort can be selected and the control data from the memories of the module will be recalled in the microprocessor of the sewing machine and then used for controlling operation of the sewing machine. By means of simple, strong modules of an advantageous price, even an unskilled operator can select and recall any number of stitch sorts in a simple and safe way when the module with the desired sort of stitch is inserted and the corresponding number is selected.

    • A sewing machine having a torsion spring coupling between drive and machine shaft. An engageable catch pawl acts on a stop element connected to the drive, which stop element is connected to the drive side of the coupling spring of the drive. If the catch pawl is engaged with the machine in operation and the stop element is blocked, the coupling spring is released and hence the coupling disengaged. The motor may then run down while the motor shaft is stopped resiliently in a predetermined position via the coupling spring which simultaneously the coupling spring prevents excessive forces from occurring due to inertia and excess stressing. Hence this construction permits the motor to be stopped rapidly from full operation with simple means.

    • A sewing machine drive having a mains rectifier (1) which, via a chopper (2) operating at a relatively high frequency, supplies direct current pulses to the driving motor (3). The duty ratio of these driving pulses is controlled as a function of a nominal value transmitter (11) and a current limiting circuit (14) controlled by the motor speed. This produces a smooth quiet, vibration-free operation of the motor (3) or the driven machine with a high degree of motor efficiency. Moreover, a speed-dependent current limitation occurs in such a manner that at high speeds a limited maximum current flows, which at the same time results in an output limitation.

    • A method and the device for minimizing stitching faults in embroidery devices (1) is provided, which includes a drive for moving the material holder (13), with an article to be sewn (11) being stretched therein, based on the knowledge that such stitching faults frequently can be explained by oscillations of the article to be sewn (11) and the material holder (13) due to rapid accelerations. Various effects, such as different types of articles to be sewn, changing weights, and friction ratios can cause a change of the oscillation behavior. One or more sensors (29, 43, 44) are provided and arranged such that they can detect the oscillation of the article to be sewn (11) and/or the material holder (13). The control of the drive and/or the sewing needle (23) occurs depending on the detected oscillations such that deviations of the stitching site from the predetermined target value is minimized.
