摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods and apparatus to dispense items and management of items in stock which methods and apparatus are specially suited for dispensing medical supplies and by which a user can quickly make access to an item and correct and newest records on the number and the type of a dispensed item can be retained. SOLUTION: A dispensing unit 10 comprises a plurality of locations in which items are held, a processor 33 in which records corresponding to items in the unit are stored, and a plurality of item switches 42 which correspond to the locations in which items are held. The item switches 42 are connected to the processor 33 so that a user of the dispensing unit 10 can record items being removed from the unit 10. The apparatus is suited for dispensing medical supplies though other types of items could also be dispensed. The unit also has visual indicators 46 which are typically light emitting diodes. 摘要： A relay tray for securely transporting items includes a lockable transportable container for holding items to be transported, and an electronic controller including a processor. The relay tray receives electric power through a power interface, and includes a commination interface through which the controller can communicate electronically. The relay tray includes a mechanism operable under control of the controller to make items in the locked container accessible in response to communications received via the communication interface, the mechanism operable by the controller only when power is being received through the power interface. In some implementations, the power interface includes four electrical contacts on an outside surface of the container for receiving power and a rectifier that produces voltage of a polarity suitable for powering the controller. The power interface may function as the communication interface.

A dispensing device at a healthcare facility may include a number of bins for storage of medical supplies, with some of the bins designated as patient-specific bins allocated to be assigned to patients for storage of their medications or certain other supplies. A central server computer system, in communication with a computer of the dispensing device, may monitor and assign current and future patient-specific use of the bins for the dispensing device. The assignment and management of patient-specific bins may be performed by devices distributed through the system.
