    • A conveyorized machine (5) that operates to automatically advance objects of generally the same shape and weight, particularly breasts of turkey, to a scale platform (8) which is retractable below the conveyor (7) and elevatable above the conveyor (7). On the scale platform (8) the object is automatically positioned to a desired location relative to a vertically running band saw blade (14). In one mode of the machine (5) the desired location will result in the object being sawed or severed into two portions of equal weight. In another mode the desired location will result in the object being sawed or severed into one portion of a predetermined weight and a second portion being the remainder of the object. After the object has been positioned in the desired position on the scale platform (8), the platform retracts or lowers below the level of the conveyor (7) and the object is then conveyed past the band saw blade (14) and the resulting two severed portions are conveyed to the discharge end (20) of the machine (5). Preferably, a hold-down mechanism (11) is provided to securely hold the object in its desired position on the conveyor (7) as it passes by the saw blade (14).

    • A gas-flushed microwavable easy-to-open food package (10) is provided which is resistant to impact under temperatures at or below freezing and which is comprised of a flexible lidding film (12) having oxygen-barrier properties hermetically and peelably sealed to a food compartment (14) formed from a polypropylene copolymer material. The lidding film (12) is preferably comprised of oriented polyester, and the food product compartment (14) further comprises a peelable oxygen, barrier film (16), preferably formed of ethylene vinyl acetate, PDVC and a peelable polyethylene layer. The package (10) is designed to contain a perishable food product, such as a wiener in a bun or other proteinaceous-farinaceous food combinations, and is preferably entirely or partially transparent so as to allow the consumer to readily observe the condition of the food product before purchase. The package (10) is particularly advantageous in that it provides impact protection and maintains freshness for a food product that is shipped frozen and kept at refrigeration temperatures near point of sale, and can also be microwaved to serving temperatures without thermal distortion.

    • A continuous method of enclosing a proteinaceous product (24) in a vacuumized and hermetically sealed package having a peelable hermetic reclosure and having a body member (10) of semi-rigid preformed plastic with a first planar marginal portion (12) and a central portion (14) shaped to provide a packaging chamber. The package also has a flexible dimensionally stable base member (16) having a corresponding second planar marginal portion (18) and a central portion (20) to provide a closure for said packaging chamber. The method requires placing a sufficient quantity of proteinaceous product in the central portion (14) of the body member to substantially fill the central portion when the package is completed, positioning the first planar marginal portion (12) face-to-face to the corresponding second planar marginal portion (18), vacuumizing the assembly, and hermetically sealing the package. The improvement is applying an adhesive (22) to either the first planar marginal portion (12) or the corresponding second planar marginal (18) portion to provide at least a portion of the hermetic seal wherein said adhesive is a high molecular weight pressure sensitive hot melt adhesive having a viscosity of between 5,000 to 100,000 centipoise at 300 DEG F and said adhesive provides a peelable hermetic reclosure.
