    • A method and a circuit arrangement (1) for operating a high intensity discharge lamp (2), which is supplied by direct current (DC) supply lines (4, 6), comprising a transformer (40), of which a primary winding (42) is connected in series with an inductor (46) and a capacitor (48) to the DC supply lines (4, 6), a secondary winding (44) of the transformer is connected in series with the lamp, a switch (52) is connected in parallel to the capacitor (48), and a control circuit (56) is connected to the switch (52), whereby the control circuit (56) controls the switch to conduct upon detecting a zero crossing of a voltage (Vsw) at the switch, and the control circuit controls the switch to not conduct upon detecting a value of a current through the switch which is greater than a reference value.

    • A lamp circuit comprising a series circuit of an alternating voltage (AC) supply source (2) for supplying an AC voltage having a high lamp-operating frequency, a ballast inductor (4), a capacitor (6) and terminals for connection to a gas discharge lamp (8), and, connected to said terminals, an ignition circuit for igniting the lamp (8).     • A circuit arrangement for operating a high pressure discharge lamp comprising a DC/DC down converter which provided a DC current to an output capacitor (Cout), the output capacitor (Cout) being connected in parallel to a full bridge inverter (S1-S4). The current provided by the DC/DC converter is regulated via a control circuit (CSG) which renders alternatively conductive and non-conductive a switching element (Sd), in dependency of the amplitude of the voltage across the output capacitor (Cout). In particular, a reference signal (Sref) indicative of the DC current to be supplied by the DC/DC converter, is periodically modulated at each commutation of the full bridge inverter (S1-S4) by a microprocessor (muP) in dependency of the peak voltage detected on the output capacitor (Cout) by a peak detector (PD). Consequently, it can be achieved a reduction of resonance phenomena between the output capacitor (Cout) and the component of the full bridge converter such as the ignition choke (Lign) and/or the lamp (LA).
