摘要： This invention is a method for preventing diffusion of small, monovalent metal ions out of a substrate which contains such ions comprising plasma enhanced chemical vapor depositing a carbon modified metal oxide layer onto the substrate at a temperature of less than about 550 °C, preferably at temperatures less than 500 °C, and more preferably less than about 400 °C wherein the carbon modified metal oxide comprises Me, O, C, and H covalently bonded to one another, where Me is selected from Silicon, Titanium, and Cerium; the mole ration of O to Me is 1:1 to 2.4:1; the mole ratio of C to Me is 0.1:1 to 4.5:1; and the mole ratio of H to Me is 0:1 to 8:1. This invention is also an electroactive display device comprising a sodium containing glass substrate with the carbon modified metal oxide layer as a protective inner coating.

The method provides a way to deposit rapidly and uniformly very thin and nearly defect-free layers of polyorganosiloxane and silicon oxide on the inner surface of a container to achieve more than an order of magnitude increase in barrier properties.

摘要： A reversed permeation membrane assembly and method for analyzing one or more compounds of interest from a sample solution. The membrane assembly includes a semi-permeable membrane (15) of predetermined thickness and length, and having inner and outer surfaces. The membrane (15) is attached adjacent its outer surface to a substantially rigid membrane support (17), and a non-porous barrier (18) contacts the outer surface of the membrane to prevent permeation of compounds beyond the outer surface in use. In a preferred embodiment, the semi-permeable membrane assumes a substantially tubular conformation through which sample solution may be passed. The membrane support (17) also preferably features a tubular conformation within which the semi-permeable membrane (15) is mounted. Because of its unique structure and improved efficiency, the assembly of the present invention may be incorporated for in-line use with liquid and gas chromatography devices and GC/MS units. In some applications, the extractant can even be flowed through the membrane cell to collect analytes and directly to an LC column for analysis in a substantially non-stop manner.
