[Class 115.] A ship's davit comprising a pivoted strut a and rocking lever f is swung by a rigid or flexible extensible operating member m, m , or m connected to the inner end of the member f and to a stationary anchorage p, Fig. 1, or to the end of a crank arm n , Fig. 5, or wound on the barrel of a winch, or as shown in Fig. 3 the operating member m may be a rack held in engagement with a pinion n . When the strut is arranged to swing inboard beyond the heel pivot, the movement may be limited by a link q, Fig. 1, or by a chock q , Fig. 3, on the lever f engaging the strut a, or by a tie-rope q , Fig. 5. The member m, Fig. 1, is a screwed rod working in a worm-wheel nut and a sheath k charged with lubricant. The members m, k may be interchanged, and the operating pinions n for the two davits of a pair may be coupled together. The sheave g at the outer end of the lever f tends to rise when strut a is first swung to the left so as to lift a boat off the chocks v, and the weight of the parts in the outboard position tends to raise the sheave g so that the gear automatically takes up slack when the boat is water-borne. To permit this movement in Fig. 1, the lower eye r of the link q is oval. The device may be mounted on a pivoted base or on straight or curved runways.

    • A process for hydrogenating olefins is disclosed. The olefins are present in a feed gas which includes H2 and one or more sulfur compounds. The sulfur compounds may include H2S and organic sulfur compounds. The feed gas is passed through a reactor at an inlet temperature from 100° C. to 250° C. The reactor contains a catalyst which is active at the inlet temperature. The reactor may be adiabatic. Saturated hydrocarbons are formed from the olefins. A temperature gradient may be formed in the reactor due to the exothermic nature of the hydrogenation reaction, causing the temperature to increase downstream in the reactor. At temperatures higher than the inlet temperature, H2S may be formed from organic sulfur compounds. A gas mixture including saturated hydrocarbons, H2S and H2 exits the reactor and may be brought into contact with a chemical adsorbent which removes the H2S. The gas stream may then be passed to a steam methane reformer.
