In the first and second gasket base plates 11, 12, full beads 11a, 12a are swollen at the side of periphery portions of cylinders 3, and half beads11b, 12b are swollen at a site outward of the full beads 11a, 12a. The full beads 11a, 12a of the first and second gasket base plates 11, 12 are formed so that top portions 11c, 12c of the full beads 11a, 12a face each other at positions that are opposite to each other in the up-down direction. The shim 15 and the pressure increasing plate 16 are sandwiched between the top portions 11c, 12c.

    • In a metallic gasket having a metallic sheet made with a recess surrounding around a diverse type of hole, in which an elastic sealing member is installed, a relation between the recess and the elastic sealing member in their cross sections and also configurations is so specified as to use the elastic sealing member within a range of elastic limit inherent in the elastic sealing member, thereby improving the sealing performance of the metallic gasket. The elastic sealing member installed in the recess formed around the hole such as combustion hole and so on is composed of a top extending above a major side of the metallic sheet, and a bottom having a cross section reaching widthwise opposing side surfaces of the recess. The elastic sealing member is made not more than the recess in their cross section perpendicular to the major side of the metallic sheet. Thus, the elastic sealing member, when the metallic gasket is squeezed, may serve its useful function within the range of inherent elastic limit. This helps ensure the properly tight and enduring sealing condition, thereby keeping the gasket against premature degradation and any collapse.

    • A cylinder head gasket 1 includes at least two first and second seal plates 11 and 12 in which oil drop holes 4 are perforated, respectively. On the first and second seal plates, half beads 11a and 12a that endlessly surround the oil drop holes and that project in a direction toward each other to be mutually pressed are formed, and the oil drop holes are sealed by these half beads. Outside of the respective half beads, auxiliary beads 11c and 12c that project in a direction toward each other to be mutually pressed are formed. Projection directions of the half beads and the auxiliary beads may be opposite to each other. Since the respective auxiliary beads 11c and 12c give acting forces that press the respective half beads 11a and 12a against a cylinder head or a cylinder block, a better sealing property can be secured as compared with a conventional cylinder head gasket.
