    • A fluid coupling assembly particularly adapted for connecting hydraulic conduits to the ports of a fluid manifold. The coupling comprises a male member which is threadedly connected to the port and which includes tapered locking surfaces on the male and female members, respectively, that are in tight frictional engagement when the male member is threaded into the female member. An O-ring is positioned in a pocket and disposed between the threads and the tapered locking surfaces to isolate the locking surfaces from hydraulic fluid, thereby ensuring a dry, frictional wedge lock. The O-ring is of a size that permits it to move axially in the pocket. In a modified embodiment of the coupling, there is provided an adjustable fitting which includes a lock nut having a skirt portion that is wedged into the tapered O-ring pocket.

    • A connector is disclosed before attaching a flexible hose to a rigid tube in which the tube includes an outwardly and circumferentially extending bead around its free end. Both the hose and tube are circular in cross sectional shape. Furthermore, the hose is dimensioned so that, with the hose positioned around the tube and over the bead, the hose stretches outwardly and forms an annular bulge having a predetermined diameter around the bead. The connector includes an annular collar having a sleeve and radially inwardly extending flange at one of the sleeve. A circular throughbore is provided through the flange which has a preset diameter less than the predetermined diameter of the hose bulge around the bead. Similarly, an annular ring has an inside diameter less than the predetermined diameter and the ring is positioned over the hose. The ring and collar are secured together such that the ring and flange are positioned on opposite axial sides of the bead thereby securing the hose to the tube.

    • The present invention is a brazed fitting suitable for use as a hydraulic coupling for pressurized fluids. A male component has a tapered surface which mates and creates an interface with a similarly tapered surface of a female component. A brazing material is heated to diffuse and alloy within the interface, forming a connection between the surface portions which is stronger than the metal being connected. A groove on the male component retains the brazing material in the middle of the surface portions so that after the components are joined in an interference fit, the assembly is heated and the brazing material melts in the middle of the interface and connects together the mating surfaces by diffusing and alloying. The counterbore of the female component does not require a base, and the resulting structure has improved fluid flow characteristics.

    • The present invention is a hydraulic coupling and method of making the same. The coupling includes a male fitting, a female port, and a lock nut. The male fitting has external threads which receive the female port and the lock nut. The female port has an internal tapered recess for mating with an external tapered surface of the skirt of the lock nut. The skirt portion has inner and outer sections which initially form a double angle on the exterior surface. The outer section is bent inwardly to form a tapered external surface forming a steeper internal angle with the male fitting. An O-ring is positioned about the male fitting for sealing the hydraulic coupling within the tapered recess. The fitting of the present invention is also adaptable to the O.R.S. fitting and the S.A.E. flange fitting. A tapered surface of the female port engages an O-ring positioned in an annular groove of the male fitting.

    • The present invention relates to an improved hydraulic coupling which forms contact seals to fluidly connect a tube to a tapered port by crimping (tube-to-port). The contact seal includes a metal-to-metal seal with a secondary elastomeric seal. A crimped collar of the port retains a compression ring in a metal-to-metal contact. Another embodiment of the invention provides a transverse fluid coupling for a tube with the port being part of the bolt/body assembly of a "banjo" coupling. The crimped collar of the present invention is removed from the contact seal so that flexural forces and vibration of the coupling can be better resisted. The port, tube, and compression ring define a pocket for the location of a sealing ring disposed in the pocket. The pocket has a cross-sectional area larger than the cross-sectional area of the sealing ring. The tube may include a lip having an outwardly facing tapered surface substantially complementary to the tapered surface of the port. The compression ring includes an internal angled seat contacting the tube. The compression ring also includes a reverse taper contacting the collar so that the reverse taper facilitates the collar retaining the compression ring into sealing contact with the tapered surface.

    • The present invention is a brazed fitting suitable for use as a hydraulic coupling for pressurized fluids. In the first embodiment, the male component has a tapered surface which mates and creates an interface with a similarly tapered surface of a female component. A brazing material is heated to diffuse and alloy within the interface, forming a connection between the surface portions which is stronger than the metal being connected. A groove on the male component retains the brazing material within the surface portions so that after the components are joined in an interference fit, the assembly is heated and the brazing material melts within the interface and connects together the mating surface by diffusing and alloying. The counterbore of the female component does not require a base, and the resulting structure has improved fluid flow characteristics. In the second embodiment, the male component is generally cylindrical and the female component has a bore with a first aligning portion having a greater diameter than the male components, a second mating portion with approximately the same diameter, and a third guiding portion having a tapered surface connecting the first and second portions. The male portion is first positioned and aligned in the first portion before being pressed and creating an interference fit in the second portion before brazing. In the third embodiment, a tube is used as the male component which is pressed into the bore as in the second embodiment, but with the second portion of the bore having a shoulder portion for abutting the end of the tube.

    • The present invention relates to an improved hydraulic coupling which forms contact seals to fluidly connect a tapered port with a tube having a threaded connecting portion. The contact seals may be metal-to-metal seals, or alternatively may include a resin polymer element. The invention provides a fluid coupling for a tube which is transverse to the port, allowing for flow redirection in the coupling similar to the flow redirection in prior art "banjo" couplings. The body of the port includes a lip which deforms on the inner tapered surface of the fitting, and the fitting also includes an inner tapered surface on which a rim of the bolt contacts, thereby providing a contact seal at both potential leak points. The lipped port may also be provided by a collar disposed between the port and the fitting. Optionally, o-rings may be added to provide additional seals. The present invention may be designed not to seal without the application of tool generated torques.
