摘要： An apparatus for controlling an emission power of a laser diode is used in an apparatus for recording and reproducing information of an optical disk, which has a power calibration area and to which a disk discrimination code is recorded. The controlling apparatus is provided with: a power detection device for detecting an optimum recording power of the laser diode with respect to the optical disk to be recorded by use of the information reproduced from the power calibration area; a temperature detection device for detecting a temperature of the laser diode; a memory device for storing the optimum recording power detected by the power detection device, the temperature detected by the temperature detection device and the reproduced disk discrimination code; and a control device, to which the disk discrimination code reproduced at the present time is inputted, for comparing the temperature at the present time detected by the temperature detection device and the temperature stored in the memory device corresponding to the inputted disk discrimination code, and instructing the power detection device to detect the optimum recording power if the difference between the compared temperatures exceeds a predetermined value before a recording operation of the recording and reproducing apparatus.

摘要： An apparatus for reproducing information from a recordable optical disc having an information recording area for recording a plurality of information pieces and an index information recording area for recording index information with respect to the plurality of information pieces. The apparatus includes a driving device for rotationally driving the optical disc, a pickup device for irradiating a light beam onto the optical disc so as to read information recorded on the optical disc, a transferring device for transferring the pickup device in a radial direction of the optical disc, a memory for storing a temporary index information, and a control device for controlling the driving device, the pickup device and the transferring device and for producing the temporary index information on the basis of a read information read by the pickup device. The control device produces and stores the temporary index information into the memory when no index information is recorded on the index information recording area. Accordingly, desired information can be reproduced from the program area of a partial disc.

摘要： A recordable optical disc has a plurality of test areas for effecting test recording therein with a light beam applied thereto which has an optional light intensity, a plurality of count areas for recording count information indicative of whether test recording is effected or not in the test areas, respectively, the count areas being associated respectively with the test areas, and an information recording area for recording information with a light beam applied thereto. The count areas are searched for an unrecorded count area with no count information recorded therein in response to a predetermined command. If at least one unrecorded count area is located, count information is recorded in the located count area. Then, the test areas are searched for one test area which is associated with the located count area in which the count information is recorded. The light beam is applied to the test area to effect test recording therein to measure an optimum light intensity for recording information in the information recording area. Information is then recorded in the information recording area with the light beam applied thereto with the measured optimum light intensity.

While the recordable optical disc is at rest, it is determined whether index information is recorded in the lead-in area, and if index information is not recorded in the lead-in area, the optical pickup is moved to a region of the PMA area where the recording history information is recorded, while the recordable optical disc is at rest After the optical pickup has reached the region, the optical pickup reads the recording history information while the recordable optical disc is being rotated. After the recording history information has been read from the region, the optical pickup is moved to the program area while the recording optical disc is being rotated at a constant speed.
