SOLUTION: An apparatus of muscular stimulation comprises a means to specify a first stimulation phase having a first phase polarity adjusting a cardiac muscle phase beforehand in order to receive the next stimulation, a first phase amplitude, a first phase profile, and a first phase duration, a means to specify a second stimulation phase having polarity opposite to the first phase polarity, a second phase amplitude with a bigger absolute value than the first phase amplitude, a second phase profile, and a second phase duration, and a means to apply in order the first stimulation phase and the second stimulation phase to a heart tissue.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for cyclic ventricular pacing starting at a rate just above the intrinsic atrial firing rate, followed by relaxation to a rate just below the intrinsic atrial firing rate.
      SOLUTION: The method and apparatus can be applied to one or both ventricles, and can utilize one or more electrodes per ventricle. The electrode(s) can be applied to inner or outer ventricular surfaces. Relaxation protocols as a function of time can be linear, curvilinear to include exponential, or mixtures thereof. Furthermore, relaxation protocols can include one or more periods of time during which the pacing rate is held constant.
