Accordingly, from a functional standpoint as well, there are no obstacles at a time of mounting, and as a result, a same type of mirror driving unit can be used at both a left door mirror device and a right door mirror device.

The mirror surface angle of the mirror is adjusted by oscillation of the mirror by the mirror surface angle adjusting device. The mirror surface angle detector for detecting the mirror surface angle of the mirror is provided separately from the mirror surface angle adjusting device, and is incorporated into the mirror surface angle adjusting device such that engagement claws provided at the mirror surface angle detector engage with engagement holes provided at the mirror surface angle adjusting device. When the mirror surface angle detector is removed from the mirror surface angle adjusting device, the mirror surface angle adjusting device can also be used in a type of vehicle which does not have a mirror surface angle detector in the mirror surface angle adjusting device. Therefore, vehicles of different types can make common use of the mirror surface angle adjusting device.

    • A mirror assembly including a mirror and a mirror holder for holding the mirror from behind. The mirror has chamfers formed in the fore and back peripheral corners of the mirror. The foreside chamfer is so dimensioned that a light ray incident upon the mirror and reflected by a reflective film at its outer periphery (the border between it and the inward edge of the backside chamfer) toward the outer periphery side of the mirror is incident upon the foreside chamfer for preventing glare. The backside chamfer is so dimensioned that a light ray incident upon the mirror and reflected by its outer peripheral side face toward the reflective film side is incident upon the backside chamfer for preventing glare of the light ray incident upon the mirror, the portion directed toward the mirror's outer periphery side is incident upon either chamfer. Since these chamfers, formed by grinding, are opaque and ground glass-like, respectively, the light ray reflected outward thereby is soft and free of glare.

    • Supersonic water-drop-removing mirror assembly and water removing method has a periphery of the double-walled vibrating unit sandwiched by the mirror holder from fore and backside at predetermined points on nodes of generated standing wave. The mirror holder has projections in point contact with the backside of double-walled vibrating unit at predetermined points corresponding to nodes of the standing wave in central portion of double-walled vibrating unit. The projections are formed of an elastic material which absorbs vibration. The mirror plate is first vibrated by the supersonic vibrator with its vibration frequency set at a first level to remove water drops on a front surface of the mirror plate. Next, the vibration frequency of the supersonic vibrator is changed from the first level to a second level so that positions of nodes of standing wave to be generated by said supersonic vibrator are shifted. Subsequently, the mirror plate is vibrated again with the vibration frequency of the supersonic vibrator set at second level to remove the water drops which remain on the front surface of the mirror plate at positions of the nodes of the standing wave which were generated when the vibration frequency was set at the first level.

    • A mirror case positioning device for holding the mirror case at least in a normal position, on one hand, and permitting the mirror case to lightly rotate between the normal position and a rest position. A first friction plate is secured on a lower face of a flange of a bracket for supporting the mirror case. A second friction plate as a resonance body is secured on an upper face of a flange of a column mounted on a support. A vibration element is mounted on the upper face of the flange of the column so as to cooperate with the second friction plate. The vibration element is operated by a supersonic generator. When the supersonic generator is not operated, the first and second friction plates contact frictionally with each other so that the mirror case is held at a desired position including the normal position. On the contrary, when the supersonic generator is operated, the second friction plate is considerably vibrated so that the fiction between both friction plates are reduced, resulting in a light rotation of the mirror case.

    • A connecting structure for connecting a motor for driving the mirror main body of an automobile outside mirror assembly such as an electric door mirror and a fender mirror and the power source of the motor to each other. A driving unit accommodating the motor is provided on the rear side of the mirror main body in the mirror visor. A power cord extends from a battery installed on an automobile main body into the mirror visor. A connector containing power terminals is mounted on the top portion of the power cord. The connection terminals of the motor project outward through the through-holes from a rear wall of a unit case of the driving unit to the rear side of the driving unit. The connector has through-holes for allowing the connection terminals to pass therethrough. The connection terminals are inserted through the through-holes and connected with the power terminals in the connector. Projecting walls formed on the connector and the unit case are fitted into each other with a waterproofing member provided therebetween. The power terminals contained in the connector are held to extend in the direction perpendicular to the connection terminals of the motor.
